No. You will just need to bring your passport when you fly domestically starting in October.

I have the enhanced now I think but is that as good as the Real? Which is better to have?

The Enhanced has the same benefits of the real ID plus you can use it to travel to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean without needing a passport.
If you have an Enhanced now you can use it to fly after 10/1.

i am pretty sure you will also have to bring the passport to get into any federal building starting 10/1

you can only travel to those countries by land or sea to fly to any of those you would still need a passport

So I wanted to come back and update.
I went yesterday. I made the appointment in late January and yesterday was the first available appt.
I was in and out in under 20 minutes!
It was the fastest easiest experience at the DMV I have ever had.
My appt was at 930.
I arrived early- at around 915.
Was walking out, finished, before 935.
All 3 people who I dealt with in the process were super nice, friendly and efficient and made it go super smooth.
It was crowded but the appointment made ALL the difference- or I just got lucky.
Either way, it was super fast and easy. And I had been dreading it for over a month!
Bottom line- make an appt!

This was Medford.
If you are in Suffolk, the lady who helped me told me they opened a temp DMV in Selden that is for licesnses only (no plates, registrations etc) and is by appt only and it's supposed to be even less wait time.
My DH made an appt for that one at the end of next month when he needs to go.

Anyone been to the DMV lately?
I went to the Garden City DMV last week to get the enhanced lincense, with an appointment and was done in about 25 minutes. The "reception/check in" line, was the longest wait I had, which was about 10 minutes. From there, my number for a photo was called next, then I waited two numbers and was called for my ID. Very quick and easy with an appt and the right paperwork/documents (fill out the form before you go)
