frozen shoulder, too
what?!?!
so...
i have a torn rotator cuff, a torn bicep ligament... and now, i've been told that i have frozen shoulder. what the hell?!
dr doesn't want to operate just yet. we'll be trying a couple of months of PT before deciding.
has anyone dealt with frozen shoulder?
did it get better?
was surgery involved?

No experience but OMG!
What are you doing to yourself? 
Actually how did this happen- did you injure yourself working out or something?

NOPE. i just got old. lol
the dr gave me the stats and then i checked online... women over 40 are susceptible to this lovely cocktail of ailments.
because having cataracts in both eyes at 44 wasn't enough!!

I gotta tell you- I believe it.
I can injure myself sleeping laetly.
I woke up one day with what felt like a sprained ankle. I was FINE when I went to bed
I'm falling apart too and I don't do any strenuous activity at all..

I had frozen shoulder. It did get better after intense physical therapy. It usually comes with a few other shoulder conditions- which causes us to limit its use- which causes the tissue to - as my PT called it- shrink wrap itself over the shoulder.
Most doctors will try PT first and it can be very successful . I think it began with my PT working by slowly stretching my shoulder (Ie pushing arm over head) Then a lot of exercises, many that you follow up at home.
With surgery, you will still need to do PT so I think the feeling is, may as well start with PT first and see if it works.
Afterwards, it feels so good to be able to stretch your shoulders back!

i have my first PT appt tomorrow morning.
i've already been doing the few exercises and stretches the dr recommended and i already feel a reduction in pain. i've actually been sleeping a bit better because the pain isn't waking me in the middle of the night.
hopefully, this will be the trick and surgery won't have to take place.

That's good to hear! Keep up with them. Occasionally some mild achiness creeps back in- which remind me to stretch them . I don't want to go back to that pain.

the funny thing is that i've had shoulder issues for years and i've always gone through a series of stretches that help. this time, the pain got CRAZY... to the point of bringing me to tears.
had i known that my original game plan (stretching) was the key, i could have saved myself a truckload of pain, missed days from work, co-pays, and sleepless nights.
oh, well. live and learn. granted, these exercises/stretches are different than what i would have come up with, so i guess i have learned something along the way.

frozen shoulder, too
I had frozen shoulder. It was awful. I couldn't lift my arm above waist level. It took a TON of P/T to get it fully mobile again. The therapist said there are various stages of frozen shoulder (thawing being the final stage when you get all your motion back). My ortho didn't want to do surgery to release the shoulder. He said it's very painful, and requires just as much if not more post-op therapy, than trying to get it to release with just therapy.
