I would do a pyramid bunk bed (full size on bottom, twin on top), some of them even have a trundle or storage under them.

I just did the same thing. We got a really nice set at Bedroom Source. It's full on the bottom and twin on top. There are two big storage drawers under the bed. There are storage drawers in the stairs to climb to the top. It's a really nice sturdy set.
Just FYI, we went to pretty much all of the local furniture spots. I didn't want to spend a lot but I found that the cheaper sets were kind of junky. In one of the places, the set was like $700 or $800 and the saleswoman told us that in good conscience she could not sell it to us because she said it was not sturdy for my 2 rambunctious boys. After she made that comment I felt that I would need to buck up and get a quality set for safety. I ended up hitting a sale at Bedroom Source and I paid maybe a few hundred dollars more than I would have at the other furniture stores. This set is made of all wood and is really sturdy. Given that MLK and President's Day are coming up, check them out because they may be running sales again. Also, the guys that work there are really great. Delivery was a non issue and the service was great.

We got a twin over twin with storage steps and storage at the bottom for my boys and love it. We got ours at Raymour and Flanagan.

I think a 4 and 2 year old are too young for a bunk bed. They are pretty high.
Could you fit a toddler bed in the room until they got older?

At the time we bought our bunk at Bobs. I dont know how to post a pic but on the Bobs website it looks like the Keystone stairway twin over full with storage and trundle.

We have twin on top, full on bottom, no storage but that would be a nice feature. The bed warning states no child under 6 should be on the top bunk, which I find to be pretty accurate. On occasions that my almost 4 year old climbs up there I'm very nervous and watching him like a hawk.

The Bedroom Source had a lot of combos but I'm not 100% about the combo you are asking about but I'm pretty sure I saw that at 110 Furniture. I think that's what it is called. It's in the same shopping center as The Main Event on 110. That place had a lot of nice furniture too.

I think that your kids are too young to be on the top bunk. Plus, it's such a pain to change the sheets and make the bed. I'd just get two twin beds. This way there's some floor space left for toys and stuff.

OMG making those beds is SUCH a PITA!!!! It takes me like 20 minutes

Yes I agree - we have bunks in our vacation homes and it is a major pain to change the sheets and make the beds. I have just perfected after years!
But regardless, 4 is very young for a top bunk. Think about when he has to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I would do two twins. Or, you can potentially get a set that you can convert to bunks later. My bunks can be separated to two twins. I think most bunk beds have this option.

The Bedroom Source had a lot of combos but I'm not 100% about the combo you are asking about but I'm pretty sure I saw that at 110 Furniture. I think that's what it is called. It's in the same shopping center as The Main Event on 110. That place had a lot of nice furniture too.
That's not the place where the sales lady told you she couldn't sell it to you in good conscience, is it?

i would do two twins. I think they are too young for bunk beds. i mean, even 1.5 is kinda young for a regular bed too.. Can you move the crib into the other boys room for while?
ETA: I think I would just get another crib. You can get them for a good price if you shop around. I, personally, feel like the 1.5 year old is still a baby and may be too young for a bed

Bunk beds
My two boys share a room. It wasn't so bad when the youngest was still in the crib, but just before his 2nd birthday, he started escaping. We considered bunk beds, because the room is really small, but decided instead of just have two toddler beds.
I am so glad that we didn't do bunk beds, because they're maniacs at bedtime now (currently 5 and 2.5 years old). They run around, jump on the beds, throw each other around, etc. Most nights the 5 year old has to sleep on the couch, because it's the only way we can separate them so they calm down and go to sleep. Even with a regular bed, the oldest got hurt a few weeks ago and lost his front tooth, because they were messing around and he fell off the bed and hit his tooth on it. I can't even imagine what might have happened if he'd been on a bunk bed.
Maybe someday in the future they'll get bunk beds, but for now we're sticking with the regular beds.
Honestly, if I were you, I'd keep them separate as long as you can. I'd probably put the crib in the oldest room, but keep the baby in my room (in a pack and play or something) until he/she sleeps through the night. Then move the baby in with the oldest at least while you're in the crib stage.
With my second I kept him in our room for the first 6 months and by then he was sleeping pretty well. Then once I moved him in with his brother, he was in the crib and would be asleep before the older one went to bed. It worked well until the youngest started moving around and staying as late as his brother.

AAP recommendation is 6 I believe. As an adult, I fell off a top bunk and got pretty hurt. I know you have space constraints but I think it’s just too young. Also what’s to stop the little guy from attempting to climb the ladder?
