Sorry another birthday parties question!

Ok sorry for another bday party question. So it seems the bday invites from kids from DD's pre k class are flowing in, literally seems like there is one every other week, I also got an invite to two parties on the same day. So looks like the whole class is being invited to each party.... Just wanted to see what most people do. Do you try to attend every party you can, or only go to the ones your DC wants to go to/friends with? I have been giving $25 GC's at each party but it seems to be adding up now that there are so many, so I was just curious what others do.

Re: Sorry another birthday parties question!

I try to leave it up to DD. I ask her if she wants to go to so and so's party
Most of the time she has said yes.
A few times it had been at sports places or to do things she wasn't interested in at all and she told me she did not want to participate. (If it was for a good friend, she'd want to go regardless of the venue but for just classmates if she isn't into the activity she doesn't want to go)
I don't force it.

My oldest, I don't really remember the preK parties. I feel like there were a few that we went to, but I don't remember it being lots. it was a big thing in K. Almost everyone invites the whole class then. We tried to go to the ones we could assuming there wasn't a conflict or it was definitely something my son didn't want to do.

is your PreK located in your school district? If there isn't carry over to their future school, I'd be less concerned.

For us, especially in K it was trying to get him to form bonds with the kids, and not feel left out when they talk about it on monday, and us to form bonds with the parents.

We're with these people for 6 years + MS and HS and wanted to make friends

I think we all trade the same $25 gift cards. Sometimes we try for a toy if we know the kid well enough to know what they're into.

On a side note, RSVP, and do it early. It sucks on the receiving end to try and throw a party and you can't figure out if anyone is coming.

With my first, I tried to go to many.
With my third, I RSVP “no” the minute I get them.

The only exception is if they have a bestie. Then we go.

And yes, $25 gift card to Amazon is best.

My DD is the same age. We go to any party we can make. I usually ask the parent what the child would like when I RSVP. Usually a toy and I always include a gift receipt.

If the whole class is invited to the other parties I would do the same. It seems to be a class by class thing. Last year in preschool DD went to a ton of parties and this year in pre-k not so much. Same school, but different kids.

We had DD’s party last month. She got mostly toys, some clothes. A few gift cards.

Thanks all, yes I definitely make a point to RSVP since I hate when people do not RSVP to events that I throw... I was just wondering if I would be a bad parent for actually responding NO to some of these Lol...

It's a mix- some kids live in district and some out of district, but most of the kids that do live in our district would be going to another elementary school that DD won't be attending.

We try to go to all of them. It's nice for the birthday kid to have lots of kids there and my son likes to play with his classmates so it's like a big playdate. I know he won't remember these kids in a few years but it's still fun for him in the moment. Then again, if the party is at someone's house and I have to awkwardly sit on the couch and socialize with the hosts mother in law for 3 hours, I'm out. Give me a 90 minute party at a bounce house place any day.

Sorry another birthday parties question!

If we are free, we go. We actually just got invited to his first party with his new Kindergarten friends and he is very excited. I am looking forward to meeting some of the other parents as I do not know any of them.

ETA: I usually give a toy. I try to spend a max of $20 unless it is a good friend.

If we are available, I always asked DD if she wanted to go, and of course she always said yes. So basically we went to all parties if we were free.

Sorry another birthday parties question!

When my DD was in K and first grade, we went to just about every party if we were free that day---there was like 1 or two parties during those years that we weren't free. (I would ask her if she wanted to go and she would always say yes) Now that she is in 2nd grade, she hasn't been invited to one party. (I am guessing by that grade, it gets phased out??) Anyway, i would give a toy between $20-$25. If it was a really good friend, I would spend a little more.

We decline. My time is valuable and the last thing I want to do on my day off is sit around in at a kids party.

I'm the complete opposite. I must admit that I like the parties. Yes, sometimes they're loud, but I like chit chatting with the other parents. If it wasn't for those parties, I wouldn't meet any of the other parents. Plus, my daughter enjoys the parties. I'd rather that she plays at the party than sit alone at home on her electronics.

Same. My son is an only child so he gets to socialize at a place without me scheduling a play date! All I need to do is spend $20. Plus he gets a little bag of junk that he loves to collect and play with. No seriously he loves goody bags and remembers where he got every silly Knick knack. Sounds like a win-win.

Agree. I’m not a huge chit chatter but I suck it up because my DD has fun and I think it’s nice for the birthday child to have everyone there.

If you guys knew how much I hate chit chatting with other parents you would think I was a social recluse. And I am.
But yes, for my daughter I go.
Or went rather.
Now she's at the age where you can do drop off parties.
And that has been LIFE CHANGING!!!!
