Lost mail, making a complaint/ bills due question

So we went away in mid November for about a week and I had the post office hold our mail while we were away. They were supposed to deliver all accumulated mail the day we got back (which was 11/22) and we didn’t have much mail (def not a weeks worth) so DH went down to the post office to check, and they said they didn’t have anything there. So we thought it must have been a light mail week. Well it turns out they lost the mail or must have delivered it to another address because we just got the accumulated mail in our mailbox today (along with the hold mail confirmation notice). One of the pieces of mail was a utility bill that’s due tomorrow. Anyone know if a bill is postmarked on the due date, if it’s still considered on time? I could call and pay by credit card but there is a fee so I was just curious. Also has anyone gone about filing a complaint regarding mail delivery? If so is it with usps directly or the post office?

Are you able to pay it online?

Hm I’ll have to see if I can link the account # with my back account online! And hopefully there won’t be a delivery delay! Thanks!

Most bills you can pay with a checking account and no additional fee. If you call there should be an automated menu and it will post that day with no late fee.

I also feel that making any kind of complaint will be useless and just get you further aggravated.

I dont even get bills in the mail. I have a bill paying schedule spreadsheet and pay everything online. Even if you dont lay online might be easier for next time to just make a list of when all the bills are due.
As far as the post office, mistakes happen. Nothing really you c can do. At least you ended up getting your mail
Also wanted to add a few days late on a utility bill is no big deal. Dont sweat it.

I would call the utility and explain the situation. Most of the times, they will forgive a late fee, if you normally have a good record of paying on time.

I'm sorry this happened, because I know how frustrating this can be.

It is useless to file a complaint about lost mail, just falls on deaf ears.
Been there, done that, my blood pressure meds got lost in the mail. Was a nightmare trying to get them refilled.

You can either set it up online and pay through your bank account or you can call and make a payment on the phone. Either way, not a big deal. It takes 5 minutes to set up.

Are you able to automate this bill? You can do either auto bill pay, auto bill pay with a set limit, or email notification of the bill and manual bill paying on line. I still get a paper statement as well. But all the above are easy option to prevent what happened to you from occurring again.
