gingerbread house
has anyone here ever made a gingerbread house from scratch?
how hard is it to do?
how long does the house stay "edible"?
is it worth it?

My mom used to have a stoneware pan for gingerbread houses from pampered chef. Some years were harder than others but if you want to actually eat it, it's hands down worth it. The cookies that come in most kits taste like cardboard. I'd say it was fine for close to a week?

awesome. i can live with that time frame.
i'll set it up to have SO's brand new grandson "pose" for some pictures with it on his first christmas.

I've made some from scratch using templates, but not for eating.
Too much work to just take it apart a few days later, plus I used straight pins to stabilize the walls and roof.

One year I covered the roof in coffee beans, that smelled amazing.
That was back in the day when I had time and energy to do this kind of stuff.

I haven't made one in a few years, but I did make one 2010-2015. Relatively easy, but time consuming. Totally worth it. Depending on what recipe you use, it's edible for up to 2 weeks.
