Your holiday shopping list- close family? extended family?

We buy for our kids (of course)
My Niece and Nephew
My Mom
My Dad
My sister/BIL - just a small house gift, like an ornament or something decorative for the holidays.
My cousin's 2 year old and new baby.
The rest of the cousins we do a secret santa for so that is 2 gifts
We have a no gift card rule with everyone though. If we all start trading gift cards than it's not worth the hassle and for us takes the fun out of gift giving. (Just for xmas though)
For school we have about 20 people to buy for so I don't know what I'm doing about that yet.

Re: Your holiday shopping list- close family? extended family?

This is why i hate Christmas. Forced shopping for gifts. I’m more of a “oh, I saw this while out and it made me think of you” gifter. I find it close to impossible to get thoughtful gifts a million people all at once ... but here’s my list

Adults:
DH (his bday and Christmas)
My mil & fil
Bil & sil
(I already stopped exchanging with my adult siblings. There are 4 of us and it was out of control)

Kids:
5 nieces
1 nephew
2 “nephews” (my best friends kids 1 is my godson)

For the kids it’s gotten WAY easy because most of them are older and get $50 Visa cards. Done and done. I mail for 6 of them because I don’t see them. If I do see them, I’ll add a small gift to the gift card. Be it their favorite candy or some lip glosses for the girls.

For the younger nieces (5 & 2) I buy gifts cards as well but then some stuff to open. Cute shirt, small toy, etc. because they little , it’s nice to have gifts to actually open.

The adults .. thats where I’m always stumped and honestly don’t enjoy the shopping. They all have EVERYTHING they want. And thankfully for them, have the ability to buy anything they want at any time. So it’s not like you think “oh, she’d love this or app, he’s never get this for himself, I should grab it.
It winds up being funny T-shirt’s, a gift card to west marine, something from sharper image lol
Blah blah blah

For my SIL , I actually came up with something I feel is thoughtful. She just had some stuff done to her hair and she’s being better to it to help it get healthy. So i bought her a hair mask, hair product and gift card to l’ange . Com to get more products. I told about their stuff and she bought a few things and liked them. Hopefully by the time Christmas comes, she didn’t buy everything from their website. If so, she’ll just have more

ETA: every year I say the adults should do a $25 funny or gag gift for each other to bring fun back into it. And then go out as a family to a nice fancy dinner and split it. Then take the $ we would have spent on gifts nobody’s wants and and pay off someone’s layaway. Or adopt a few families for Xmas.
Nope. No interest. They seem to like wasting their money on nonsense

So, all of this that I quoted is what infuriates me.
Adults don't need these gifts. It is just added stress and wasted money and it makes what should be a fun, wonderful time of the year, and turns it into something I dread.
That's why I stopped it all.
I would just say listen- we're out. Don't buy us anything because we are no longer buying for the adults for the reasons you listed here.
If they want to continue with this nonsense they can but I wouldn't be a part of it.
It's ridiculous.
