How to talk to boss?
My medical office goes through staff like toilet paper. Constant training and retraining. I think most employees get burnt out and no one seems to last more than 6-9 months. I make a pretty good salary and stick around, but I think entry level starts out really low (~$15/hr for med assistant). What/How do I broach this with the doctor without insulting him? I can't keep training 18-20yo with so much turnover anymore. I'm not sure it is even a $$ issue as the workload becomes overwhelming here.

How to talk to boss?
Can you pose the question like this?
“Seems like we are wasting a lot of time and energy training people who aren’t staying long term. What do you think we could do to change this?”
Use that to start the dialogue and when he asks what you think, be honest. Also think about if there’s anything you think should be put into the training to make people realize what it’s actually going to be like. Unfortunately this happens a lot where I work too and the training is a full year. People often drop out right before the year mark or shortly thereafter...

Maybe people who work in the field can give you some feedback on what makes them stick around vs head for the hills at a practice.
I feel like hiring one person at even $20hr but the work load is impossible to keep up with doesn’t work for anyone. But hiring 2 people at $15hr may be just what they need to keep things moving and people staying with you. Yes it’s a lot more $, but if the patients are happy, there will be more to come. It makes up for itself.
I would wait and see what people say. Maybe even make another post with a poll and see what is the most popular response and then come up with a game plan on what to approach your boss with.
I know as an employer, it can be difficult to get complaints but zero solutions. So if you go to him and state the obvious about turnover but also say I’ve given this a lot of thought and here are ways I think we can fix the issue. That is the best way to approach that

You make a great point about hiring multiple people at a lower price point. I think he'll be open to that and the more physical manpower the better. Plus, it'll lessen the burden if one of them leaves.

Exactly.
Also think of multiple people at part time hours as well because it’s easier to find someone to fill in when they aren’t already working FT shifts. You can add that to your list of possible solutions for him.

exit interview, but you work there and prob have a sense of what is making people leave.
Doesn't your boss ever ask why so and so is leaving or why his office has a high turn over. If he doesn't even ask maybe that's part of the problem. I dont know if this is the case but people want to work in a place where they feel they matter and are valued
