Getting a tutor...

It was suggested to me that getting a tutor may help my 1st grader with confidence in math. I am wondering if anyone has ever had a tutor for a child this young, and what one would expect from a tutor. Do they come review work, do HW, or bring their own curriculum?
My son has some difficulty focusing. Would it be expected that they would have tactics to keep a child this young on task or would that be up to me?
TIA for any insight!

I would ask for recommendations from the school. Many times other teachers at the school tutor.

They can do whatever you want them to do. I have tutored HS science before. I usually help them with HW and then bring my own materials as well.

They should have tactics to keep them focused.

My daughter has had a tutor since pre-K. She's now in 2nd and still sees her. Best thing we did was get her the tutor early because even on pre-K she was really struggling. The tutor has her own stuff that she brings to work with her on, I will give her some classroom stuff or test so she can see what they are working on and go over things with her if she feels like she needs too. At this age it really isn't a tutor for a specific thing - more like a general overall skill help.

ETA: Part of the help you are seeking when hiring a tutor at this age is helping them focus so I would not think that would be on you. I am not involved with my daughters session at all.

Def not too young. Some kids need extra 1 on 1 help If it was suggested I would def. look into it. Start with 30 mins and see if your child can sit and stay on task. If so, you can increase to 45 mins per session.

Also, look to see if your local library offers anything. Sometimes they offer tutoring for free.
