Opinion: Is it rude to answer a text message at 5:10am?

My BF runs softball teams and he has several group texts, they aren't like, social group texts, just confirming game times and people showing up etc., so no like late night chatting, etc.

There is one girl who ALWAYS answers between 5:00am-5:30am. I know its when she gets up for work, but I also know the last texts usually go out in the early evening too.

I know it isn't hurting anyone, but I jump at first when I hear it go off, then I realize that it's usually her

Yes it's rude. You wouldn't call someone's house at 5am so you shouldn't text and potentially wake people up. I know you can silence your phone or use do not disturb but you don't know people's situations and if they have to leave their phone/ringer on for whatever reason. I have a family member who does this in group texts and it annoys me as well.

Yes rude.
I would never text anyone that early unless I knew for a FACT they were up at that hour as well.

I think you’re going to get generational answers in this one

I don’t think it’s rude at all.

Very rude if you know others are not getting up then. The earliest I text is 8 am, unless it is an emergency.

I’d lean toward rude. Or just that the person doesn’t realize they could be disturbing others.

Funny - I keep my texts on silent all the time, so I don’t find it rude at all.

I keep the sound off on my texts so it wouldn't bother me (and I am usually up at that time during the week anyway)

would i ever do it no? would i care if someone else did probaby not as long as it doesnt wake me.

i dont like texting to late or to early because i dont know if it will wake someone.

I have to send messages out for a team and I asked the other team mom you think its too late to send one at like 9:45-10:00pm. i thought it would be but she said no just do it; she said if she is in bed she will see it in the morning. I did do it but i wouldnt do it as a norm. So point is some wont care others will

As he told her its waking me can you not reply at that time? maybe that will help

Same, I don’t think it’s rude at all. I also chat with people on different time zones as well. I feel like people’s schedules are different so you may not know when it’s the right times for them unless you really know the person.

Side bar.. I hate those group text. Lol

Re: Opinion: Is it rude to answer a text message at 5:10am?

The only way i think it’s rude is if she knows for sure she’s waking you when sending it and does it anyway. Other then that, she’s just going about her day however she normally does. saw the message and replied without giving it a second thought.
Maybe she’s sleeping when message at night is sent because she gets up super early? Would that make the nighttime message sender rude?

I set my phone on vibrate all the time. I tell everyone if there’s an emergency, call DH. He needs his phone on for calls from employees. He gets messages at all hours with people calling out. But I sleep like the dead so it doesn’t bother me.

To fix it, ask him to set that group to silent at night so you don’t get disturbed.

I am an early riser and go to bed early.

I will get texts from people at 11:30pm and I am on my 5th dream...

Depending on who it is... I will return the favor in the morning...

Not at 5:30... but maybe just before 7

Same! I don't find it rude. That's when she's up and the best time for her to type back before going to work. I get texts late at night and I keep my phone on silent. No, I don't text at 5 in the morning, but will respond around 7:30 - 8AM.

I do not keep my phone on silent during the day because I like to know when I get a text or call etc.

No. No one is texting you in the event of an emergency. Silence your phone at night if you don't want to be woken up by a text. You can enable phone calls while silencing texts. Or he can simply put people who text at odd hours on silence.

Re: Opinion: Is it rude to answer a text message at 5:10am?

The only appropriate text or call at that hour would be if someone was seriously ill and needed help, or that someone died.

I would be seriously pissed if someone sent me a text that early in the morning, also late at night.

Who is texting you if there is an emergency? I would imagine almost anyone would pick up the phone and call. I can't imagine finding out someone I was close to died over text.

Do you have an iwatch? Or even a Fitbit? They will alert you of a call. My phone is almost never on ring unless I am actively waiting for a call (dr or something) but my watch goes off for texts and calls

Same. If that's when she has time to respond, I don't think its a big deal. Just put the texts on silent overnight.

When my grandma died in the middle of the night, my mom sent the family a text rather than calling to wake everyone up.

I don’t find it rude. But my phone is on silent. My phone is set so that if a person calls me twice, it will ring through (an emergency situation). Otherwise it’s silent.

I don't like to put my phone on silent just in case there's an emergency. I get up at 5:00 AM and my prime time for answering previous evening texts would be at about 5:45, but I never do, because I think it's rude and I don't want to scare anyone. This is often why many of my texts go unanswered. Chat Icon If I got a text from someone at 5:00 AM I'd think something bad happened since I'm usually the only dummy awake at that time.
