halloween party idea spinoff
i know that the original post/question was about school-aged kids, but i've borrowed some of the ideas for a pre-peak/halloween thing i'm putting together for our office.
i would like to play a few "minute to win it" type games. i like the one where you use an empty tissue box tied to a person's rear and they have to shake the items out.
i'm looking for ideas to relate this to halloween. all the ones i've seen have been thanksgiving - shake your tail feathers or christmas - ice cube shake.
not sure how to relate it to halloween.
ideas?

lol
it's not so much where i work, it's who i work with. everyone here is my son's age and they are all very silly and love stuff like this. they are always jumping around and dancing.
and for the record, i work for fedex ground... at one of the distribution hubs. these people are super silly.
i'm setting up a pre-peak (holiday season) team building event. we're having it at the end of october and they've asked me to go with a halloween theme.

Same. Actually my first call would be to HR. I want to do my job at work, end of story. I'm surprised this is ok with FedEx HR/Corporate.

I would not like this at all. Hey, I like to have fun at work, but if something is tied to my asss, I’m shaking my asss and people are watching me—no way!
I would run it by HR because I can see all types of complaints with people commenting— hey nice asss shaking. It only takes one person to say something.
I’d go with something more vanilla at work, sorry.
ETA: do toilet paper mummies or something. Draw the best face on a pumpkin in a minute. Anything but shake your asss.

I mean we took a Pole Dancing as an event for a female employee who was getting married, so I get it. The group is fun but its definitely not for the ultra conservative or faint of heart. Also the key is that no one is required to participate, don't want to put something around your waist and shake, don't play. But it's fun to watch.
Some other games:

exactly.
at 46, i'm not likely to do this. since i'm putting it together, i won't have to. but all of these people are in their mid to late 20s, there's a couple who are a hair over 30.
we'll be playing in teams and not everyone has to do each activity.
it's to get the team feeling comfortable with each other right before our busiest time of the year.
there will be prizes and lots of food.

Could you do games/contests with halloween theme?
-Win, lose or draw/pictionary
-Charades
-Pyramid (describing halloween things)
-Pumpkin carving contest (they could do this at home and bring in day of party...could be decorations and a contest at the same time!)
-Days leading up to the party, you could post trivia questions about halloween or horror movies

I agree. I had to "walk a catwalk" in front of mostly female coworkers and 3 male bosses for an ugly sweater and ugly sock contest two years in a row and it was mortifying. And that is much more mild, IMO, than shaking your asss.

I never participate in any of this office camaraderie bullshyt. I'm here to work, not to play games.
I just stay away. If they made a huge deal of it, I'd call in sick or make some excuse to work from home.
If they made an even bigger issue of it, I'd contact HR. Because what they don't realize is, for people with major social anxiety, like me, something like that would be my worst nightmare. I shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable or upset in my place of work when I was only hired to do a job.
And I'm not saying they shouldn't do these things- because some people don't mind it or even like it- but to make it mandatory no effing way.

Well this is my 3rd startup and I’m 100% telling you this is not an issue. So maybe no office you worked for but the last three companies I have wouldn’t care.
Tbh is not even shaking your ass, you don’t twerk - you just move up and down. It’s really not a big deal and I’ve seen this game played, you don’t have to stick your ass put. People are acting like the OP is suggesting a twerk contest. Lol.

Agreed, you definitely shouldn’t be forced to do anything. That’s ridiculous. Unless you’re a model, I doubt catwalk is part of your job description.

It was part of our holiday luncheon. And as a Manager, I *have* to participate in the luncheon. When everyone in the room is doing it and is like "now it's YOUR turn... and GO", you really can't say no.

Sorry, I misinterpreted it. I felt like your post was making it seem like the culture I was describing culture was impossible to have at a workplace. But I know there are many companies where this would be a terrible idea, I worked avery coporate companies before moving to AdTech / Start up.
