Any tips for getting better sleep?

I’ve never been the best sleeper but as I get older it’s gotten so much worse! I wake up everyday around 4/5am and then can’t go back to sleep for a long time. It stinks when we are going to bed after midnight I feel like I get no sleep at all, sometimes I wake up to go to the bathroom other times I just wake up. Also, strangely, a lot of the time when I am sleeping I don’t feel I am fully asleep.

Any tips for better sleeping?

Have you tried taking Melatonin?

You would take it bedtime; I know it helps a lot of people get a good nights sleep.

Any tips for getting better sleep?

I wake up early "naturally" as well and have found going to bed early - between 9 and 10 - helps. It means less downtime in the evening, but I find that I have energy to do things in the morning (like go to the gym) when I wake up early.

To fall asleep, my DH and I listen to a sleep cast on HeadSpace.

I also only drink caffeine in the morning.

My DH likes "sleepytime" teas.

Have you tried black out curtains and a sound machine? Recently, my DH's breathing has been driving me INSANE. He is just breathing normally, but it is all I can focus on. When that happens, I use a sound machine app on my phone and it helps me fall back to sleep.

Re: Any tips for getting better sleep?

Like PP said I won't drink coffee past 11:30 - noon.
I also try and go to sleep at a decent time. Usually around 10PM. Sometimes later and sometimes earlier.
Try and clear your mind before you go to sleep. Don't let things stress you out. Look up breathing exercises too. Works for me and I teach my boys too. Long, deep breaths and hold in and let it out very slowly helps.
No screen time or games before bed.
I know some people take meds or oils you may want to try too.

Also don't drink too much before bed. A lot of water all day. I also like to take a shower before bed. I feel clean and refreshed and go to bed in a made bed every night.

Good luck!

Re: Any tips for getting better sleep?

I agree with a lot of the PPs.

This is what I do to get better sleep;

-Bed by 10
-Close blinds and curtains so the least amount of light comes in when sun comes up
-if I have to pee way early, I literally shuffle my feet without picking them up off the floor (sounds so weird but the act of actually walking wakes me up) and pee in the dark. Eyes hardly open.

The biggest part of this is going to bed early. Sometimes it’s before 10. Lately I’m just screwed because my older dog wakes me up all morning - but usually, the above works well

Same!

I walk to the bathroom with my eyes closed and pee with no light on. I only open my eyes just enough to find the toilet paper. LOL If I actually open my eyes, I will be up for 30-60 minutes!!

Make a bedtime. Do not eat two hours prior. White noise maker. Diffuse essential oils. Consistent chiropractic care. Clean diet with lots of veggies. Moderate exercise 3-4x a week. Melatonin can help, but need to be consistant

Please be very careful with this, and any rugs or carpets along the way that can make you fall. My mom fell and broke her hip 2 months ago, so now I’m very aware of things.

OP, I have heard magnesium helps. For me, when I wake up in the middle of the night if I check my phone I can’t go back to sleep, so any light is a big no for me.

For me, the best sleep I ever get is when I take CBD before bed.

My college textbooks put me to sleep no problem

Lol

Not sure if someone mentioned it but I have a few friends that use that lavender diffuser before they go to bed

And I always feel sleepy after a hot shower - the few times I took a bath with epsom salt I was wiped out

Hope you get on track. Not being able to sleep stinks

Eliminate screen time at least an hour before bed! It will take a few days for your body to adjust, but eventually it will work and you'll get a better night rest.

I have been taking Melatonin for years. I started out with it because i heard it was good for migraines.
I feel like after awhile I became immune to it.
I don't take CBD every night - because it's damn expensive- but when i do- it's like I sleep like a baby!
