Tried and True Slime recipe withOUT Borax?

Anyone have a guaranteed good recipe for slime - that does not use borax? I'm hoping to have a good recipe to use at my daughter's birthday party. TIA!

Re: Tried and True Slime recipe withOUT Borax?

It depends, true slime you need the chemical reaction that comes from the boric acid. You can make it with contact lens solution and baking soda, but it's basically making the same chemical compound that's in borax. We've done it both ways. The contact lens solution is just a lot more expensive.

We've made a huge bowl of slime using only 1/4 of a teaspoon of borax, glue, and water. I've seen recipes that call for A LOT more borax and that's serious overkill. You really only need a tiny amount.

You can make various types of putty (rubbery or runny) by mixing glue with tide or liquid starch. They aren't really slime though and they still expose the kids to some chemicals.

I think making your own slime with a tiny bit of borax is a lot safer than the ones you can buy. DS wanted a poopy slime he saw at the store, so MIL bought it for him. I swear it smelled like he was playing with kerosene. Obviously I took it away from him... who the hell knows what was in that.

We use contact solution and it works well. I bought the cheapest I could find for dd's birthday party and it still worked.

Mix .5c water and .5c glue. I used colored glue so I didn't have to mess with food coloring.
Mix in .5 teaspoon baking soda.
Mix in 1 tablespoon saline.

Stir and then knead forever. I think I cut the recipe in half for the birthday party which was plenty.

Borax is non-toxic, if that is what you are concerned about. It is a mined mineral.

There is a liquid you can buy. Elmer’s makes it. You just mix it with the glue

we made one i found on google- its 8 ounces of glue ( I buy the already colored kind, so i don't have to deal with food coloring...), 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and the contact solution until its not sticky. it works well. definitely gets "rubber-y" by the next day or 2... but, to make and play with for a little while, it works well and its easy.

We use this one. It works every time and lasts weeks. The kids love it. https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/fluffy-slime-recipe/

The activator contains boric acid. Not sure if the OP is looking for something that avoids that specific chemical or only borax. Just wanted to put it out there that according to Elmer's website it still contains boric acid.
