Moving questions
So what do you put your stuff in? I’m so nervous to get boxes from the supermarket or wine store
Do I buy boxes? If yes where?
And clothes
Do they just go in garbage bags?
We are only moving about 3 miles away but this is all so new to me...
And
Any recommendations for movers?
Do movers take furniture apart? Like our bed and couches?
Oy vay!!!

Moving questions
We bought boxes at Home Depot. For dishes and glassware I got boxes from a liquor store since they are strong and sturdy.
I liked using luggage or just laying across the back seat with hangers for transportation. You can also use a garbage bag like the cleaners and feed the hanger through a hole you make.

For clothes, I put a lot of folded things in rubbermaid bins.
Since you are moving so close, you may just take the drawers out of your dressers and put them in the back seat of your car.This way you don't have to pack and unpack!

When we packed ourselves, we bought boxes online. Uhaul had decent prices a few years back.
The last time we moved (also from Bellmore to Merrick! lol) we just had our movers pack us. They packed us one day and moved us the next. SUPER easy, though not so cheap. It was totally worth it, though.
They will take apart all of your furniture and re-assemble at the new location.
We used Shleppers. I've heard good things about Verity, too.

Moving questions
I moved twice in 4 months last year (I recommend against that lol)
I bought boxes at Home Depot (and used others from liquor stores etc)
To move clothes, my movers said I could leave everything in the dresser drawers. Clothes on hangers I moved myself - just left them on hangers and laid them across the back seat of my car (as mentioned by an above poster)
Any furniture that needed to be taken apart, the movers did that and then re-assembled at the new place

I got boxes, wrap, and bubble wrap from home depot. For clothing, the moving company has boxes with a bar on top. Clothing stayed on the hanger and went from closet to box to closet. Now would be a good time to do the Marie kondo cleaning so you don't move junk. They sell dish boxes, they made packing dishes simple. I would ask the moving company how much they charge to also pack you. For one house we paid them to pack and move us. It made a huge difference and cost a lot less than we thought it would.

Moving questions
I just stuck clothes in hangers in big black garbage bags. Waste of boxes IMO. Also don't make boxes too heavy. Movers hate that.

I’m in the process now too. We are moving ourselves with a uhaul only a few miles away. We got boxes from Home Depot and some from Walmart. Both are great quality and cheap. We actually started early and moved a lot of stuff into a storage unit. First month is free and we are going to try to get it out within this month. when we get the uhaul we only have furniture to move and our everyday stuff. I’m hoping we have an easier move next week!

We ended up packing all our stuff in totes and moved as much stuff as possible ourselves and just used movers to move the heavy furniture and whatever boxes we didnt get a chance to move ourselves. We disassembled whatever furniture we could ahead of time.

why nervous about getting boxes from stores? many people give moving boxes away for free. look on FB
when I moved, I was told I can leave items in dresser draws for the move

You can buy boxes on Amazon too. ( we do that at work)
I have packed folded clothes in luggage in the past.
at least 1 of the times I used movers, they came with a make shift wardrobe- it was a cardboard box on its side, with a rod stock through and casters on the bottom and we just pulled stuff out of the closet and put it on that was they were carrying boxes to the truck.

Wardrobe boxes for your clothes and boxes for everything else. I just moved and since we were close I moved my clothes in my closet little by little without boxes.
I bubble/paper wrapped my glasses and packet them in boxes. I bought the boxes from Lowe’s and Home Depot.

We have those huge plastic containers
And clothes we are just going to keep on hangers and throw stuff in bags
It’s so easy to say buy everything new but we are already spending a ton of $ we didn’t foresee having to do...our couches are literally 2 months old so getting professionally cleaned
We have a king size temperpedic bed, not so easy to just replace...this whole thing sucks but will be worth it in the end we keep telling ourselves!
I see tons of Pb&j sandwiches and Roman noodles for a few months LOL

It is such a pain. I literally moved last week Thursday and it’s been so much with moving and organizing the new place, on top of work. Wrap your TVs in the moving covers, usually movers have it handy. For the closet clothes, I would either lay them in your backseat (what I did) or take the garbage bags and a Polk a hole for the hanger, like a garment bag. Folding them in half in a box with the ha get part on top may be better than a bag as well. If you throw them in a bag it may get all messed and come off the hangers.
I downsized to a place half the size, so I had to get new furniture that fit and get rid of so much stuff. We ate tuna fish sandwiches for dinner twice this week. Lol.
