Anyone see the story about the woman attacked in D.R?
The horrific attack happened at Majestic Elegance in the Dominican Republic.
Please Please be careful. This is just awful. She isn't getting any help over there to be able to press charges.

I honestly don't feel safe in a lot of these places.
I know things can happen anywhere but at least in this country you can get the proper help.
These places are 3rd world countries with corrupt police forces and corrupt governments.
Good luck getting any help there.
They build these beautiful resorts to give you a false sense of security but you aren't safe.

Yes! This is horrific. and what is so much worse is that she has zero recourse. I am becoming leary of traveling to these places now. There's this, the woman that was murdered at Club Med in T&C and then the numerous incidents in Mexico. It's scary!!!

I agree.
I've been to resorts in The D.R and Mexico and these stories always make me leary of booking.

Ugh it freaks me out. And how rude they would not refund her trip or anything... WTH?!?!
My husband refuses to go to Mexico or DR or a few other places... but it's true... it really can happen ANYWHERE. literally anywhere.
Honestly, I was pushing to go to the dr... and now I won't anymore lol. Because I'll forever associate that story and those pictures to that place.
 I'm so glad her kids still have a mom!

How horrifying! So ****** up that the resort and local law did nothing to help her. It's unfortunate, but never venture out alone, especially in foreign places. You just can't be sure who's lurking in the shadows. You aren't safe anywhere anymore.

I agree, Mexico and DR are on my list of places I would never travel to. Have been to both many years ago, but now I’d rather have no vacation than a vacation to either of those places now.

OMG! that is horrible. She said the attacker was uniformed, why didnt they question the employees? OMG I cant imagine. I feel like unless there is a boycott of these places then they wont turn around and realize tourism is their livelyhood. I'm in tears for her and her family how terrible.
On a side note we went to Jamaica in March and a group were discussing an attack at a hotel there. Everyone said they werent scared and Im talking repeat guests like 13 times in a decade type thing. We always walked in groups and I never let the kids out of my sight but were never afraid. We are going again in July to our favorite Hilton. I say if you are going to travel dont venture alone at night.

Wow. I stayed at that hotel.
To be honest, the DR has been the only place I've visited (in the caribbean) where I haven't felt safe, and it's the only place I won't visit again.

The article wouldn't open for me on my browser, can someone tell me was the husband going nuts looking with hotel staff or what was going on all those hours?
Dh and i talk about this at length all the time. There are places we just won't travel to. Yes it can happen anywhere, look at the local news what goes on on the subways for god's sake. But to be in a different country is another story.

Her husband and friends, meanwhile, spent the evening searching for Lawrence-Daley. The resort staff allegedly insisted to them that Lawrence-Daley was just drunk and likely passed out somewhere — something that her husband knew was uncharacteristic of his wife.

Omg. This is insane. The crazy thing is she didn’t leave the resort. It’s not like she ventured outside. DR was not on my list of places to visit as I’ve heard of too many sketchy things.

This is so terrible. When I first heard it they said it was someone wearing a resort employee outfit. Whether they were an employee or not, the police are not investigating it like they should. There are a few places I would never travel to and the DR is on that list because this is not the first time I've heard of problems without investigation.

Anyone see the story about the woman attacked in D.R?
Such a horrible story. She is truly lucky to be alive. I was watching the 6:30 news last night and they were reporting on this story. At the end they said that the resort said they would be making a statement "in a few hours." The story was on the news again this morning, but still no statement from the resort. I 100% believe everything this woman had to say, but am very curious to see how the resort is going to address it.
