Worth spraying for mosquitos and tics?

I was looking into getting our home sprayed by those companies that does treatments in the yard every few weeks in summer season. After a couple of quotes it looks to be around $450 for the season.
Once I told DH that of course he's like... that's ridiculous for that amount.
Anyone ever have it done? Worth it? How much did you pay?

Thanks!

Personally I think the whole concept is ridiculous. Is anyone going to tell the mosquitos and tics in neighboring yards that they are not allowed in your yard? We did it the first year we owned our house because my husband insisted, but after that I would not allow him to do it anymore.

Mosquitos fly.
So if they kill them all in your yard, new ones will just fly in.
Waste of money

I just put a bunch of these around the fence line.

Once the mosquitoes see they aren't allowed, they turn around and go somewhere else.. Chat Icon

This isn’t necessarily true. In my neighborhood everyone is hiring a guy who sprays garlic based spray and it works. It maintains its smell to mosquitoes (not humans) and keeps them away for 3 weeks. Then they come spray again. The mosquitos hate the smell. I wouldnt believe it unless I experienced it. 2 of my friends used the same service. None of us got bit even once the entire summer at their houses. I am getting it this year!

So they come spray every 3 weeks? Sounds expensive. Why not just wear bug spray?

Or put some garlic cloves around the yard. Keeps vampires away too!

I had an exterminator tell me not to use them to spray. Instead he told me to buy from amazon skeeter defeater and spray Thursday’s which should get me though the weekend. I didn’t did so can’t vouch for it. But he had nothing to gain and didn’t try to sell me on anything. I think he said it was a natural option to chemicals but guess you’d have to read the ingredits.

I wanted to do it this year because the mosquitos by us are TERRIBLE, but the quote I got was for about $700. Can I ask who charges $450?

Even if it works at home—we go to the park, beach, camp, friend’s houses. We’d just get bitten elsewhere.

I have had good results using a Dyna trap- it doesn't work on ticks but I have never thankfully found a tick on anyone including the dog.

I paid less than $100 for the Dyna trap 3 years ago, I bought it from QVC

My husband sprays himself with a sprayer he bought that he puts on the ride on mower. I’m terrified of ticks and can’t stand mosquitos. He does it every few weeks and we go the entire summer without a single bite.

Its really not that expensive when it means being able to use and enjoy my yard vs not being able to last 10 mins outside. Me and both of my kids are allergic and the bites blow up and get infected.
And we have always worn bug spray in the past it does nothing.

Worth spraying for mosquitos and tics?

My husband uses an organic spray called Mosquito Beater that he gets off of Amazon. It smells orange based, so there's that. It works for us and he sprays whenever we are having people over and then random times throughout the summer. It seems to work.

You are probably one of the lucky ones who aren’t allergic to mosquito saliva so you don’t have a reaction when you are bitten. My father in law is like that! I wish I could be that lucky!!!

Re: Worth spraying for mosquitos and tics?

We used to have our yard sprayed so that we could enjoy spending time out there. Im now OOS and some people here spray plus we have an entire division of local govt in charge of spraying.

I say try it once and spend some time outside. If you notice a real difference, you know it worked for you. If not, you just have whatever you paid for 1 spraying to lose. You won't know until you try.

A co-worker of mine had her yard sprayed and it wound up killing the bees that were in her yard. So I am wary of any sort of spraying now.

Yes be careful. The service I use uses all natural spray -- entirely safe for kids, animals, etc. It is a deterrent, not a pesticide. It wont kill anything.
