Stopping point between LI and Boston

Anything fun, kid friendly and worth stopping at on the way to Boston?

Along the lines of mystic aquarium, Norwalk aquarium or children’s museum...etc etc. Pez factory which is basically a store lol

Any ideas?

We did a stop at the dinosaur state park and museum. It's small and quick, but worth the time to stop in and check out, stretch our legs. I think we spent a couple of hours there.

I usually stop in Mystic. There is olde mistik village next to the aquarium with stores and restaurants.

How old are the kids?

In Norwalk, there is the Maritime aquarium (small but really well done especially for smaller kids). Stepping Stones museum is close by to Maritime. It’s very expensive but a real blast for the kids. You can only do one if it’s a stop and they both take a few hours.

A bit farther, by Yale... there is the Peabody Natural Museum which is really awesome and better for the slightly older set. They have dinosaurs, a huge rocks and minerals collection, a mummy, a kids play room and more. They will be closed for huge renovations soon and it’s really a great place.

I have heard, but not been to the Dr Seuss museum. Supposed to be great. My kids aren’t really into Seuss... but it sounds cool.

Mystic seaport is IMO a whole day trip. It’s exhausting if you do it well... and it’s worth doing it well. It’s a great place. Mystic aquarium takes less time and has those beluga whales and a sea lion show. It’s cool to see and it’s doable in a few hours. The local restaurants are good and it’s a cute little town.

I have wanted to check out that dinosaur place the PP mentioned. It looks like it includes a water park & who doesn’t like that? I may go this summer to check it out!

If you like aquariums and sea life, be sure to go whale watching in Boston. It’s a long trip but it’s one of those things that is truly mind blowing.

A bit off track but we stopped at Edaville for the day, then went to our hotel at night, and went to Boston the next day.

The dr Seuss thing sounds cool. I’ll look into that.

Not looking for something that takes too long.

They are young!!!

Stamford nature center is also very nice (think small farm, great playground and an area to touch some animals).

Discovery Museum and Planetarium is small, has an indoor adventure park set up with climbing, has a planetarium with kids programs (check times) that are included in admission. Our kids loved it at that age!

So much to do in CT.
