Michael Cohen Testimony
I've been watching on and off. It's going as I expected. There is not going to be a bombshell that we don't already know, it's just that he's going to hopefully bring the receipts to back up his claims. The Republicans are losing their minds because they're terrified and they want to impugn anything he says since he's already lied to Congress.

It just screams hypocrisy that the Republicans can't stop harping on him being a liar. They're there doing all they can to protect Trump who lies constantly. Cohen is a complete weasel but Trump is the one who employed him for years. Wonder why?

Michael Cohen Testimony
Serious question, when do we actually get to call a racist a "racist"? Like what does it actually take... As long as they're a decent human being to at least one black person, then they aren't a racist?
Is it just a cognitive dissonance that if Trump is a racist then maybe people we know, and maybe even like, are racists too, so we want to tell ourselves that he's not?

People are too fragile. Until they can even remotely accept the idea of white fragility and white supremacy, they have no hope of understanding how they are racist.

You see, I take major issue with this. I think people are so quick to throw out "you're a racist." It's a terrible claim and so hard to refute once it's put out in the universe. In this day, even if someone is to say they are a Republican (or heaven forbid a Trump supporter), they are inherently considered by some to be a racist.

...probably because when you support someone, you typically have the same views as them. Trump is racist. If you support him, you are racist. I can understand why people think that way. Not saying it's right.
Now, personally speaking, I know quite a few racists, who have made racist comments in my presence, who do in fact support Trump. But, I also know some who have made racist comments who don't support Trump.

Ok, so by that logic, if you support Islam, are you then a terrorist? Meaning, some elements of Islam can be radical. So, thereby if you support the whole, you must then support all the parts?
ETA: As a general rule, if you are going to make a character attack on someone, you need to cite specific evidence. You cannot assume that all supporters agree in totality with the person they support.

I mean, no, at this point if you support Trump you're not getting the benefit of any doubt. This is so far beyond the realm of normality that you don't get to cherrypick what you like or don't like. If his completely disastrous presidency is not enough to wake you up, then sorry, I won't be coddling you and telling you that I still like you and want to be friends with you if you support him. If you choose to support him, own it fully, and don't worry about other people think, right? Be confident in your support of him. I'd rather that than these halfhearted excuses of people trying to claim that they like This But Not That with respect to him. You made your bed so lie in it.

This isn't really the right comparison. Islam doesn't support terrorism. Some to it's followers do (as do some supporters of all the worlds major religions, not just Islam). This would be more appropriate comparison if some of Trump's supporters were racist, but he himself and his policies weren't racist, but this is not the case.
The more appropriate comparison would be if you support ISIS, then are you a terrorist? If someone said they support ISIS because of its politics - maybe they support that the West should not be involved in the middle east, but they don't agree that members of ISIS should engage in terrorism to achieve their goals. They're still supporting a terrorist organisation even if they don't agree with the specific terrorist acts.
Or how about Hitler? Plenty of people supported his politics without necessarily supporting his antisemitic views. If you support Hitler without being antisemitic, then are you in the right? With your support, you help him come to power even though you don't personally have a problem with the Jewish people, but you're still enabling the person who does and giving him the power to do great damage.
So whether you support racist actions or not, just by supporting Trump you're helping him grain the power to implement and normalize his racist views. If you're supporting someone who is racist and your support helps put them have more power, power which gives them the opportunity to oppress groups, doesn't that make you partially responsible? It's not about whether his supporters agree with every views point he has, it's that they're supporting him and giving him power, so what he does with that power is on them regardless of their personal beliefs in their heart.
Also, most people are racist to some extent, even non-Trump supporters. It's the knee jerk reaction of "HOW DARE YOU CALL ME RACIST WHEN I SUPPORT A RACIST WHITE NATIONALIST FOR THE HIGHEST OFFICE, I HAVE A BLACK FRIEND" that drives me nuts.

Annnnnnnnd, this folks, is exactly how/why Trump won in 2016.
Drove anyone who had a differing opinion to fly under the radar, keep their opinions to themselves, and the wield that power in the voting booth.
I’m NOT a trump supporter. Didn’t vote for him, and won’t in 2020.
But can’t you see this?! This kind of “we can’t be friends if you support him” BS is the exact reason why he won?! The inability to FATHOM that someone has a differing opinion from you...or that their beliefs (whatever they may be) are different from yours?! It’s a dangerous slope when we start casting a massive net over people and not UNDERSTANDING that there are some very real and valid concerns that the opposing side has. And that NOT EVERY TRUMP SUPPORTER thinks alike, acts alike, or behaves alike. If you believe that those voters are all racist zenophobes and homophobes, you’ll lose again next year.
We need to pick our jaws up off the floor, dive deeper, listen to what the non-radical/extreme trump supporter has to say, and plan strategy accordingly.

No, this is called, if people chose to vote a certain way and double down on it, why aren't other people allowed to judge that?

This isn't why he won in 2016.
He won because people couldn't get over their preconceived notions about Hillary Clinton. He won because people "just didn't like her." Not because she would do a bad a job, but because they didn't like her and they believed some outlandish story about her running a pedophile ring or her murdering anyone who opposed her or whatever other ******** infowars was spouting that week.
He won because people who didn't like or support him voted for him because they thought he couldn't do that much harm and they didn't like Hillary. They didn't think he really meant what he said, or they assumed the people around him would stop him. They didn't think the president had that much power.
But guess what, he's done a lot of harm and shown how fragile our democracy can be. He has a lot of power now, and as he gets backed further and further into a corner, I'm scared to see what he could be capable of to keep that power.
Those that still support him deserve to be judged. They are supporting a president who is normalizing white supremacy. They're supporting a president who goes off the rails at rallies with statements that are completely out of touch with reality. He is incapable to using or processing actual facts, and instead just goes with his thoughts, feelings, and the propaganda fed to him on Fox News. He idolizes dictators. He creates doubt and resentment toward the free press - calling them the "enemy of the people". He is extremely dangerous and honestly scares the crap out of me.
