Is anyone a light sleeper?

I have always been a light sleeper, but recently any little noise makes it impossible for me to fall back to sleep. To make matters worse, my DH has started snoring.

Has anyone tried sleeping with ear plugs? I am probably also going to invest in a sound machine.

I will add my DH was away last week and I had no issues falling alseep/sleeping through the night...

If it doesn't get better, I may need to start sleeping in the guest room cause I need sleep.

Ugh yes, I hear everything.... unfortunately my kids are small and still in cribs so I can’t use ear plugs even though I have the monitor next to me I kind of just live in an exhausted state

I am a very light sleeper too. I definitely recommend getting a white noise machine. It won't block out every sound, of course, but it does help.

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

I’m not a light sleeper, but falling asleep after DH is impossible because of the snoring. And I’ve also noticed I wake during the early hours in the night and toss and turn. When he’s not home, I don’t wake up once. Also when I sleep in the guest room, I sleep through the night and stay completely still. Its from like 4am on, I sleep like the dead and that’s probably bc I hardly slept!!

I have slept with earplugs in. It helps. We had some really good ones my DH got at the range. But they hurt my ears. Not terribly - but they aren’t comfortable to me. I’ve used them out of desperation. I tried sleep sounds on my phone. Definitely drowns him out some BUT I am not a sound person when sleeping. I like complete silence and pitch black. Even in the summer when the AC kicks on, it pisses me off.

The guest room is my go to when I just desperately need a good night sleep.
It’s horrible. I feel your pain. My inlaws keep pushing DH to get a cpap, which would be best for him, but there’s not way I can sleep with the sound of that machine going all Night either !

This is us. I am a very light sleeper, and I have very good hearing, so I hear everything!! Earplugs hurt my ears. I got this fleece headband that is blue tooth so it hooks up to my pohone and i sleep with it on listening to my sleep sounds, podcast, etc. It keeps me from hearing him and it is comfortable to wear too.

DH used to snore very badly. Since he lost a ton of weight he no longer snores, but back then I did get earplugs. I got a bunch of cheapy ones in CVS- the orange foam kind- they worked pretty well. But i am sure there are better ones out there.

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

I have my own bedroom.
DH snores like a beast, and he moves a lot. The cat sleeps with me, so when DH is restless, she is restless as well. DH pulls the covers and it is like a tug of war during the night. I sometimes have hot flashes, so those will wake me up and make it harder for me to fall back asleep. DH is retired and I still work, so it is important for me to get a good night's sleep.

It was easier for me just to move into my own bedroom, with the cat of course. I sleep with the window open and either the fan or the air purifier on.
I pretty much fall asleep when my head hits the pillow, and get up just once at night to pee.

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

I wasn't until I had my DD. Now I hear literally everything and my DH hears literally NOTHING. Seriously, the house alarm went off in the middle of the night last week and DH slept through it. The alarm was triggered in our room somehow so that's where the high pitched beep was the loudest.

Meanwhile I hear so much that the sound of him grinding his teeth keeps me awake. Unfortunately I don't want to do ear plugs or a white noise machine so I can listen for me DD and soon my DS. Sleep deprivation is torture- I hope one of these suggestions can bring you some relief!

I could never sleep without a noise machine. I have one in every bedroom of the house. I would start there before ear plugs.

I actually did research on ear plugs, and the cheap foam ones at CVS/Home Depot/Ace Hardware/Harbor Freight/etc, block more decibels than the more expensive ones.

Those were the first ones I tried. The bottle of them at CVS. They were like nothing. They didn’t hurt as much, but they also didn’t block the sound very well. At least for me.

I’m seconds away from wearing full on noise canceling headphones lol

Noise cancelling headphones are far superior to any passive blocking type (but it's hard to sleep with them on! Chat Icon ). If the foam plugs aren't put in properly, they block very little. When they are put in correctly, they block a surprising amount of sound. I use them once in a while, and there have been times when I put them in wrong, and they were obviously not blocking the sound the way they should. Readjusting them made the difference.

Is anyone a light sleeper?

I wear earplugs but sometimes have to take them out. at first it was a little getting used to because I am such a light sleeper that I wanted to see if I could hear anything. Once you get past that, they are great but just start to hurt my ear after a while.

I had bought some at target that are fluorescent green. The pink ones just didn't work as well.

But I am super light sleeper. The wind last night kept me up. I can only hope I sleep well tonight.

In answer to those who said DH snores and the CPAP will annoy you -- look into a mouth guard. The dentist can make it and it really isnt that expensive. I think we paid like $750 for DH's. But he HATED wearing it. I used to make him. Probably the incentive he needed to loose 40lbs. Now he doesnt really snore. But i totally feel your pain. I am the lightest sleeper and cant use anything other than a running fan to drown out the noise because id be scared i wouldnt hear my kids. DH sleeps like the dead. He never hears anything. So convenient for him!

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

I tend to be a very light sleeper. I sleep with ear plugs when the noise is too much. DH tends to sleep in another room to allow me to sleep undisturbed for a few hours.

I’m a light sleeper and my DH is a huge snorer
He’s not overweight he’s just always been a snorer
I invested in Bose Sleepbuds and they are life changing
They are expensive but worth it IMO
Super comfy too

Is anyone a light sleeper?

I am a light sleeper. I just recently started listening to sleep sounds for nighttime anxiety and to drown out other sounds. I use an app right now, but I just ordered a sleep mask that has Bluetooth in it on amazon.

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

My husband uses a cpap.
I use ear plugs.
If it's an out of control night, I go to one of the guest rooms and my dog follows me in.

Re: Is anyone a light sleeper?

I became a light sleeper once I became a mom. I have no trouble falling asleep initially but actually staying asleep is hard. Once I'm woken up in the middle of the night, it's really hard for me to fall back asleep. And my DH snores as well. It's soo annoying.

Before you invest in a sound machine, try the app called White Noise. It's a free app and has tons of different sounds. I use the Pink Noise setting.
