skiing/tubing

I have never in my life been skiing or tubing but I would like to take my children (10 and almost 5). I would like to go over february break and possibly do an overnight (but I am not against a day trip) with a friend. Please help - I wouldn't even know where to go LOL!

Campgaw in NJ is fun. Small, and about 30 minutes from the GWB. We stay at the Courtyard in Mahwah. They have a nice, warm pool.

Re: skiing/tubing

Honestly, I would focus on the ski school. I’m a fan of Catamount and Butternut ski school for kids (whole day is great!!) and I’d take an intro to ski class for yourself!!! Those places have great instruction without being too $$$ and it includes lift tickets. If you can stay in Great Barrington, it’s very close and super cute. Nice restaurants and a “main” street area.

The thing is that ski school fills up often. I’d find one with a decent cancellation policy (in case rain is in forecast). Then, I’d book the school first and then focus on where to stay or whether to make it a day trip.

I’ve heard great things about Mount Peter. It’s close. I haven’t gone yet... I’m not such a fan of thunder ridge, but it’s close. Camp gaw is supposed to be very fun for beginners. It runs quite $$$ if you are not from from NJ.

But seriously, if you can find a place that you can cancel if the forecast is crummy... that’s what I focus on. I find that the weather very often does not permit.

BTW: skiing is super expensive. Like going to Disneyland expensive by the time everything adds up. Be sure you have good weather!!!
