Birthday party food
I'd stick with hot dishes, not the cold salad. That is more summer bbq food too me.

I would do a wrap platter, a cold tortellini salad (replacing the green salad), and maybe a warm dish (chicken francese or something chicken). I like warm food at parties, but that’s just me.
Is anyone a vegetarian?
No vegetarians......I am trying to switch up the food a little because we have christmas and thanksgiving where we always have the same penne al vodka and same chicken francaise dish.
That's why I figured Alfredo but since some said no to Alfredo I figured maybe a cold pasta salad.
Then do a cold cut or wrap platter, a salad of some sort (tortellini or maybe a fall salad) and definitely a hot dish. I know as a guest, I always go for the hot food. Since you said you do chicken francaise for Xmas, maybe some sort of other hot chicken dish. Chicken and rice or chicken and dumplings or a big chicken pot pie? Just something hot.

Re: Birthday party food
IMHO that’s not enough food variety for a party.
A casual lunch with a few girlfriends who you know are light eaters would be one thing, but anything you’re calling a party calls for at least 1-2 hot choices especially this season.
There are plenty of other things you can do that would be hot besides what you’re trying to avoid.
We sometimes order a few trays of food from the Garage Eatery. It’s in Islandia or Hauppauge. If you Google them and look at their catering menu you’ll see how many choices there are for inspiration even if you don’t go with them. But their food is delicious.

Re: Birthday party food
I’d get a tray or two of hot food, even if it’s some rice balls or something like that. I personally don’t like tortellini anything, whether it be in cold pasta salad or Alfredo. I’d prefer a ziti, even if I’m having it 20 other times in the next few weeks.

I can eat baked ziti every week! But the rice balls are a great idea!

Birthday party food
Honestly not enough food for my family. We have less than you are having usually and i have apps, at least 3 hot choices, salads. But i was brought up by a grandmother who would be so embarrassed if anyone was left hungry or didht like what was served. I agree, hot food is a must during fall. Also a cold cut platter is what i expect after a funeral. Just not party food to me. Also i love alfredo, in my experience most people do. Have what you think your family will like

Re: Birthday party food
Honestly it’s not a huge guest list and I’m sure you know them. Stick with the original hot dish.
I know despite what the popular opinion is on this thread, almost my entire extended family would eat Alfredo sauce. We also don’t have high expectation of Italian food.
I guess I can add Alfredo sauce as one of my unpopular items.

Birthday party food
I like Alfredo too! If you want another hot dish without the sauce - I always like garlic and olive oil with pasta too

Love that. Especially with broccoli. Broccoli, garlic and oil over pasta. Delish!
