We've had this debate about 100x and we will have it again on the other thread but no, not everyone hates it. I think it has a lot do with where on Long Island you live and other factors. But it's a big island.....
Actually, it's too small an island and that's the problem. LOL You're right, everyone doesn't hate it but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone on LI that doesn't agree that we're overpopulated, overdeveloped and that the traffic is absolute insanity, no matter where you are on the island. 
What I meant was, and we can see the results of the poll on the other thread, but I feel ike the majority of the people hate it- for one reason or another- so that makes hating it a popular opinion not an unpopular one.

I don't hate Long Island...I hate what it has become. I grew up here and where I grew up was great! I grew up in Northport right by Crab Meadow beach. At that time, it was not a beach anyone went too and the creek was a virtual playground for kids. I clammed, fished, crabbed, made tunnels in the weeds, found tag poles, swan in the summer and skated in the winter at the pond. You could go to the golf course to ride a sled on a snow day.
Now, I can't even afford to buy in the neighborhood I grew up in and that makes me sad.
I have found a little alcove on the North Shore that I love...no street lights, no traffic, the beach is a 3 minute walk away. It's a little slice of heaven.
However, I commute on 347 and that is just another level of hell. Property taxes can make a house otherwise affordable, unaffordable. Even CA has a fairer and more equitable property tax. I'm sad at what Long Island has become

OMG he is just awful!!! I mean really, the voice, the lyrics, the melodies
I don't understand how people flock to his shows at MSG - REPEATEDLY!!! I know someone who is at every other one of his shows and is exposing her 8 year DD to it! I want to let her know that there is so much more in the music world past this guy, so much more and she is missing out.

-My life is not at the mercy of my kids' sports schedules. My kids are 7, 3 and 2. They are not committed. If I have something better to do, he isn't going to the game. Even when they are older, unless it is clear they are superstars and are going straight to the NFL, I see no reason to give up every weekend to sit on a field.
-I don't do "sharp" times. i.e. be there at 6 p.m. sharp. I do ish. I"ll get there in a respectable vicinity of 6 p.m. but not sharp.
-Anything you do to sacrifice your own happiness and well being for the benefit of your kids is stupid. Examples: women who feel pressured to breast feed, stay in crappy marriages, sending your kid to an expensive college you can't afford just so you and your kid can say they went there when its not necessary (meaning my son does not need a degree from Yale if he wants to be a cop, nurse, teacher, etc. If he wants to be an astrophysicist and has the grades, fine. Yale it is.), bankrupting yourself so your kid can play on elite travel teams, have special tutors, go to fancy summer camp, go on research projects, wear head to toe designer outfits, etc.
-Do you. There are those sayings...happy wife, happy life. Happy Mommy, happy baby. They came from somewhere! And it's true. I can't stand parent martyrs. Have a life of your own. Don't just be Joey's mom.

Apartment living is so much better than maintaining a house. Hello weekends without maintenance!
I don’t know anything about Jersey Shore/Kardashian/Housewives shows. I’ve never seen one and genuinely don’t understand what they’re all about.
Pineapple on pizza is a good thing, even better if it’s jalapeño and pineapple.
It’s okay to say “no” to things you don’t want to do and no one is owed an explanation past that. Life is short. Do what you want to.
Pumpkin spice can, for the most part, burn in hell.

HAHAHAHAHA yeah he’s the fcking worst. We had told our wedding DJ that absolutely no Billy Joel music was to be played. The songs never freakin’ end and the types of people who sing along to them in bars are the types of people that I want to punch in the face.

If you are that bent out of shape about having to buy someone a gift to celebrate something wonderful happening in their life, then you probably shouldn't attend that function anyway. Yes, life is short (as people say), but it isn't too short to take the time to celebrate with friends and family.

Agree with apartment living! I have time on weekdays because of an easy commute, and time on weekends because of low maintenance AND i have extra $ because i live within my means and then some...great quality of life

Agree with this. We pride ourselves on being “busy” and self-care is lost.

Oh I don't mind sending a gift. I'm actually overly generous with gifts. I just don't like having to give up 4 hours of my weekend- when I work full time and commute over an hour a day and sometimes more to sit and watch someone open gifts. I'd rather spend that time with my DH and DD.
I am MORE than happy to send you a gift though- just give me the registry and I will gladly send it!

I love all these too. I may ***** if it’s someone I kinda know.. then I feel like it’s a waste of my time on a weekend and will usually just send a gift in that instance. But for my close Friends and family? I love it!! Shit, I’m usually involved in the party with invitations, decorations & game planning

Me too. Yes of course family time is important on weekends but I consider events like showers to be fun afternoons out with the girls, a decent meal, a drink, and some cake. My husband has things he likes to do on the weekend and my son will play with friends sometimes, or the two of them will do something together while I'm out. I am happy to celebrate people I really care about. Plus, people showed up for me, so I feel I should show up for them. But I honestly don't mind it.

Exactly. I don't see anyone running to give a mom a gold star for being a martyr. You know who definitely won't give you a gold star? You freaking kids! They grow up to be our age and find you annoying just like we find our mothers to be annoying.

Me either! And its an excuse to get out and socialize without my DH giving me the "you know, I have things to do too" speech. When it's an organized party, he's fine with it. LOL

4. I hate being "forced" to socialize. I do not like parties. I hate being in a contrived situation standing in someones yard making small talk.
