Does anyone here work as an academic advisor or an admissions counselor at a college?

At most schools academic advisors are the full time faculty (teachers). It is not a separate job. An admissions counselor would be a separate job.

I've been in higher ed over 20 years so I can try to answer (I'm not in either department though). You should also look into the career center. My ex is an academic advisor for a long time and he was happier when he moved to the career center. Still advising students, but not bogged down in policies (curriculum, etc).

My cousin was. It was her full time and dedicated job. She resigned when she had her daughter 2 years ago but if you pm me questions I can reach out to her if you’d like!
