Thanks everyone. I’m in Suffolk, port Jeff area. Maybe it was the center itself I didn’t like? I went because they have flexible scheduling which I NEED for my schedule, it’s a must. We went to Kids of Mt. Sinai. Tomorrow I’m looking at children of America but they may not have a spot for them :-/. I think maybe I just need more time to get used to the idea.

Did you try the Learning Experience in Mt. Sinai?

Also, did you look at the centers on the OCFS site to see if they have any violations? I vaguely remember it being posted someone that Children of America had some?

Also try Mill Pond, I see a lot of parents rave about that one. It's across from Norwood Elementary

My DD went to Grace Lane off 112 for Nursery school (3ish). I'm not sure if they take them younger, but we had a great experience there.

Thank you! I’ve been on the OCFS website and I am appalled by some of the violations I have found at certain centers and can’t even fathom why they can be open still. I’ll try mill pond! Thanks I live right there! I tried kids of mt Sinai I thought it was ok. Also tried Noah’s arc in port Jeff- they can’t do my sons inhaler. I need one with flexible hours where I can do some full some part

I used Tutor Time, and while they are all individually owned and operated, I was able do part time, change the days on the fly, jump between 2 days a week and 3 days a week depending on the week and my DH's schedule.
they were VERY flexible with us.

Which tutor time was this?

They were just wonderful when I was there. DD started there at 8 weeks old and did all the way to Pre K there.
I can't say enough good about them at the time

I was a SAHM while my kids were younger and I WISH I had been able to put them in daycare. I definitely worried that they were not as socialized or "educated" as their peers who were in daycare. I think there are HUGE advantages to a daycare setting that you simply can't get at home no matter how hard you try. Maybe also look into in-home daycares (licensed) that maybe can be provide a closer eye on the astma issue?

Don’t go 100% by the violations. The code and description do not 100% correlate. Many times it sounds worse that it actually was. And if a place was nearby I’d still look and ask them flat out about them. A good place will be honest. They all get violations at some point it’s more about how they address it.

This yes. It can be something like not emptying a garbage can or something really minor...and they flag that as an "unsafe " condition

i was gonna say the same thing!! you'll find the right center, and daycare will be the best thing for the kids!
I'm a SAHM- my boys are 7 and 4, and i'm always worrying that my choice to not do daycare put them behind socially, academically and all that. they both did/do part time preschool- but that doesn't compete with what most of their elementary school classmates got at daycare. my oldest is going into 2nd grade. and he's doing well, but definitely doesn't seem to have as many friends as his classmates. could just be his personality, but its hard to tell...
plus, its just exhausting!!! being the one doing it all- teaching them, keeping them busy/ exposing them to different things, keeping them socialized, plus all the other house stuff. it would be nice to have daycare as a "partner" in all that. at this point, my youngest only has a year until he goes to K so i'll stay home until then.... BUT there are definitely days when i kick myself and think they would've been better off at a good daycare center.
SOOO... you'll find one thats a good fit, and you and your kids will do great! good luck!!

I liked Kids of Miller Place better then the Mt. Sinai location. You may want to consider that as well.

Answering even though I am not the original poster...I love the Nesconset location of Tutor Time. I was very happy with them.

Daycare

Laurel Hill school in Setauket offers daycare and has a nurse on site. When my DD was an infant she needed to take a medication 3x per day- alternatives for children should have a nurse too.

Daycare was the best for my kids too. I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat.

I called alternatives no room, kids of miller place didn’t have room either. I left a message for laurel hill. I just looked online at them today and read about the nursing care. I live right off old town road it’s so close and I never even knew it
