Teacher/bus driver/ lunch aide gifts???
I don’t give anything other than the class gift. I did get the teacher and aide something at teacher appreciation day last month.

My son is in a special education class and he has a lot of people involved in his life between teacher, aides, school therapists, home therapists, bus drivers/matrons. Our class mom collected for the teacher and classroom aides so that helped at least. For the rest I got $10 Dunkin Giftcards, (because before I know it I'm spending $200 on Giftcards), along with a Thank you note.

Can I ask why parents buy above the class gift? I collected a lot of money for my class gift for dd’s Teachers and thought that was beyond generous. I couldn’t see giving more.
Honestly I feel like a good teacher deserves more than just $10 a child. They spend all year with my child, caring for them, teaching them, and they play a big role in my child’s life. This year I gave $25 extra per teacher on top of the class gift but in years prior I did $50 because those teachers were phenomenal and made extra efforts to make the year a great experience.
This! I felt that my sons kindergarten teachers did a great job with my son. I wanted to do something extra special since I felt that 5.00 towards each teacher was not enough. I didn't want to buy them a wine glass, mug or something they did not need. I gave 25.00 Target gift cards.

I wonder if collecting more per person for the class gift would be better.
Seems people want to spend at least $20- $25.
So if they suggested that amount (with a caveat that you can give whatever you want so people don't feel like they HAVE to give that much) the teacher could get a really kick ass gift and everyone wouldn't have to scramble to give ANOTHER gift on top of it .
And the teacher doesn't end up with a 25 smaller gifts instead.

Our district strictly limits the amount the class parent can collect. It is $6 per teacher for the year from each student.
To me, a $50 gift card in December and June from the whole class is just not enough to show our appreciation, so I gift separately as well. It's a pesonal choice. We've been lucky to have wonderful teachers who go above and beyond, so I feel they deserve it, and as much as it hurts my pocketbook, I feel it is the right thing to do.

We collect $5 pet student and there are 24 kids in the class so that's $120 at Christmas, Teacher Appreciation Week and end of year. Not bad.
I still would gladly give more to the class gift to avoid having to buy my own on top of it

my kids class has a person who collects 20 a kid for the teacher. then there is a head parent in the school that collects for the principal/vice principal , specialty teachers, lunch aides etc.... its a catholic school so they dont make as much or volunteer to start with

My kids are both in special ed and we don't collect for a class gift. There aren't enough kids to make a decent gift. This year because I now have two with teachers, aides, therapists, etc., I had 22 gifts to get just for in school. Crazy. The main teachers I gave GCs and my youngest's aide I gave the largest GC because she is really a life saver. The rest of them I made little goodie bags with lottery scratch offs. I use to buy lunch for all the aides one day the last week of school but this year a kid in my daughter's class owns a restaurant and always sends in food so I sort of got trumped on that lol.

I wanted to add, do what you can afford. I am sure any sort of gesture will be appreciated. Even if it is just a hand written note saying thank you.

For me, personally, it's not about having a set amount I feel i should spend, its more about showing appreciation for that teacher or professional who cared for my child and made an impact on her life. I don't feel a need to spend a lot - I know teachers make good money and don't "need" $25 or X-amount gift card. I like Dd to be able to give them some little trinket just to show she cared for her teacher, a long with a thank you note from me, and now that dd is able to write a little, a drawing and thank you note from dd.
