Another what would you give post...

We have a wedding for a cousin coming up in Montauk (no one lives on the island in the family). We need to get a hotel and it is a 2 night minimum, and they are not having a dinner the night before or a brunch the next day.

We are a family of 5, but my kids are 6, 5 and 2. When we got married the cousin was young, so he was included in his family gift. He hasn't given us a single gift for the births of the kids, birthdays, holidays, etc.

The wedding is fairly casual - not at an expensive place. What amount do you think we can get away with giving as a wedding gift? Thanks!

Give what you can afford. Plain and simple.

I totally agree! However having to rent a 2 night minimum I would probably give around $200-$300 tbh

Honestly, doesn't matter how many nights you have to stay in the hotel, or how casual/fancy the event is going to be, nor what this cousin has or hasn't given you in the way of gifts.

only thing that i'd consider is.. am i close to this family member? if so, then i'd give what i can afford ($200-$250?)

On a side note, i can't even fathom going to a wedding with 3 kids!! Chat Icon

I would probably give $200-$250 regardless where it is at where I have to stay etc.

I don't care what others think its absolutely ridiculous to think you need to cover your plate at a wedding or any event for that matter!!

I'm in a similar situation. When this cousin came to our wedding, she was included in her parents gift, which was generous. Her older brother and his gf gave us a $500 gift (though his parents prob really gave the gift). Now we're going to her wedding as a family of 4, though we only have 1 night in a hotel. Everyone I asked said to give $500, so we will. Normally, I'd probably give $400 for our family of 4.

I agree. I'm tired of trying to guess what ppl spent so I can cover my plate. I give what I can afford. If I remember someone was particularly generous with us or the kids, I will give more.
