extra money?

yesterday, we were having a conversation about those times when you need a few extra $$ for a short-term reason... hosting a party, planning a getaway, paying off that last debt, etc.

as we talked, someone mentioned those lists that bloggers put together that include driving uber/lyft, task rabbit, fivr, etc... the consensus was that those lists aren't very realistic.

so, here i am Chat Icon wanting to hear what you all have to say.
if you had to quickly come up with a few extra $$ to meet a small goal, what are your go-to ways to bring in that extra dough?

to answer my own question:
* i sell my coupon stockpile... i used to sell on craigslist, now i sell on offer up
* cash in coins i've been saving
* sell gift cards

Re: extra money?

I still work at the bakery I worked at as a teenager whenever they need me. Usually major holidays or if someone isn't going to be able to work. I decorate cakes. Its a loooongggg dayyyy (4am - usually around 4pm) but the money is good and quick and I do it rarely enough that its still fun when I do it.

Re: extra money?

I lived alone from a younger age than most people, and when times were really tight, I’d be able to save up some money by using up the stuff in my pantry and freezer...my grocery shopping some weeks would be only for a few fresh items to complete mess from what I already had onhand.

It wasn’t a mega amount of cash, but it helped for short term extra money.

Re: extra money?

Less / smarter shopping trips

I already cut coupons & shop sales to save some money but I know for sure, I could probably cut my grocery/house hold spending down if We needed extra money.

We could also got out to eat less. We order in on fridays, go out every Saturday and Sunday is either go to his parents or order in as well.

No kids here - so we like to spoil ourselves lol

We don’t do daily things like Starbucks (we have our own espresso cappuccino maker) Uber, etc

extra money?

We recently sat down and finally created a budget because we freely spend, not lavish not frugal like I wasn’t out buying myself tons of things it’s just not me but not being smart buyers. My grocery bill was almost 1k a month how or why I don’t know but it is ridiculous. So we need smarter shopping and this week did a full shopping for $150 and cut some coupons, it’s eye opening. We both used to be Starbucks goers every day, there is $10-$15 a day. So smarter shopping, same with take out. We weren’t saving as much as we could have each month. Based on how we are doing now after our major revelation of our money/ budgeting, we should be saving $1600 this month just by smarter shopping, it’s crazy how much you can cut down on without even realizing it! Other ways to save is reevaluate the cable package you have, shop for cheaper car insurance without sacrificing coverage, no take out, bring coffee and lunch, have a date night in.

^ Yeah, buying coffee and breakfast and/or lunch everyday is so much money! I buy a container of coconut coffee creamer for $3 and bring it to work and just use it in the coffee there. Breakfast, lunches and snacks are almost always packed from home. We save a lot of money by doing that. Yeah, it takes time but at this point it’s such a routine for me that it’s second nature.

I registered with Swagbucks. You do consumer opinion surveys for $ and gift cards. Sometimes you watch advertisements or tv show pilots, etc. I would do them when I had built in extra time--waiting for DD at a soccer game, lunch break, watching tv. I earned a lot of giftcards over the year that I did it.

there's a way to MAKE money couponing... not just save money.

usually, it's small amounts of money, but it can be done.

if anyone is interested in dabbling in it, without the serious commitment of buying the paper, this is what i suggest.

check out the following websites:
* KRAZY COUPON LADY
* COUPONAHOLIC

they both have good breakdowns for couponing for beginners and on money makers.

stores like cvs, walgreens, and target are great for this.they each have reward systems that give you money to spend on your next shopping trip.

it's not always money in your pocket to pay bills, but it's money that can be used to buy other items you need.

a great example right now (that doesn't require a coupon) is hydrogen peroxide at walgreens.
buy one get one 50% off
original price is $1.39. the two are priced at $2.08. they are also on promotion that if you buy two of this product, you get 3K bonus rewards points (equal to $3). that means, that you "make" $0.92 for every two you buy.

this is also an item/promotion that "rolls" points. this means, if you already have points, you can use points to pay and get points back.

there are a deals like this very frequently. many times the deals use internet printable coupons that you can just print from your computer, so you don't need to buy the paper.

if anyone needs more info, fm me and i'll break it down step by step.

i can even share some of my coupons. i don't always use all the ones i have.

totally. I pack lunch 4-5 days a week (most times its 5 but once in a while I'll run out to panera); I also pack my own breakfast most days and make a smoothie at work. so my desk is stocked with a small blender, and some other snacks to munch during the day.

we get free coffee / cappuccinos at our cafeteria. So most of the week i dont really spend much cash. It helps alot.

Selling things on ebay can work too. Look around your house and see what you can sell.

any old gold jewelry you dont wear..you can get cash quick for that.

I started selling some stuff on Let go. I really didn't expect it to work, but an hour after I posted my first item I got a message & sold it the next day. I've only sold a few things so far but made over a hundred bucks. These are things I was just going to throw out or donate (picture frames from my first wedding for example). I also sold a bride & groom figurine for $50!

i use swagbucks. i have for years. the only downside is how slow they are to process a gift card. if you're going to do this because you need a quick boost to the budget, swagbucks might work too slow for you.
