Cricut machines - hard to use? Which one to get? Worth It?
I have been thinking about getting a cricut machine. This is not for business purposes but for personal use.
I am constantly getting shirts made and other products that are personalized. I would love to get more things personalized but I don't always want to spend the money for it.
Are they hard to use. Will I be able to make the shirts?
Also besides the initial cost of the machine are the supplies for it expensive?
Basically if its easy for me to use is it worth getting one just for personal use?

I have the silhouette and found it super easy to use. There are a ton of YouTube videos too to help figure stuff out

I have a Silhouette Cameo and I love it! There is a learning curve with any of these machines though. But, like the other poster said, youtube is a great help. Plus there are tons of Facebook Groups. I make stuff with mine all the time! Shirts, water bottles, paper crafts, decorations, etc.! LOVE it!

You can find supplies on amazon. It's not that expensive but in the beginning it might be as you collect different colors and things.

I also have the silhouette cameo 3 and love it!! There is a learning curve and it is intimidating when.l you take it out of the box. Mine sat in the box for 2 weeks and then I stared at on the table for an hour before watching a video on it. I had the hang of it in a day!
It is easy to use. You can make shirts but using a heat press for the shirts is best. You need to Jude tons of pressure when applying the vinyl to the shirts.
You can find good deals on supplies. Join fb groups and you’ll see where everyone is buying supplies from.
I use mine for business and personal. I’d use it less if it was just for personal but I’d still use it for just personal.

so if I do get this for making shirts you think I should get a heat press? If I don't get one I can still make them but it will be much harder?

I have a Cricut Explore Air and LOVE it. I have used the Cameo (not in some time) but the Cricut is SO much easier to use. I have the Easy Press also and love that. I use it all the time (also personal use, not business). I make shirts, cards, banners, bags - totally worth the investment if you are buying stuff on Etsy. The only bad thing about Cricut is there is a monthly access fee that you basically have to pay to get any designs and fonts worth using. I am a member of several Cricut groups on FB and they are amazing and helpful. It's really easy to learn.

You can do it with an iron. But you need like a heavy duty board to put the shirts on top of when your ironing and your have to apply A LOT of pressure to ensure that the vinyl will stick to the shirts and make it through washes. I would suggest putting the board on the floor, putting the shirts on the board and then literally putting as much pressure as you can on the iron. A heat press is much easier to work with. You put the shirt on the heat press, close it, set the time and temp and you’re done. They have the circuit easy press which is small and compact but there are mixed reviews on it. I don’t own a circuit easy press or a heat press yet. I have done TONS of research and will be buying a heat press to introduce clothing to my business. If you’re not using the machine for business then I would say you can get away with an iron. Do some tests on some cheap shirts to figure out how much pressure you need to apply. Run the shirts through the wash to see how good they hold up and go from there.

I have done tons of research and heard mixed reviews on the circuit easy press. You really do like it? I want to start introducing clothing to my business and I have decided to buy a heat press. Space is limited though and an easy press would be more convenient. I’m just afraid with all the mixed reviews. Everyone says it’s just a glorified iron. Maybe before buying a big heat press I can buy the easy press and try it out. I’m just afraid being that it’s for my business. Have your shirts held up? Any tips on using the easy press?

I use my iron and have no issues with pressing and it staying. I use it on my regular ironing board

It is similar to an iron BUT the surface area is much bigger and there are no holes, so it presses evenly. If choice is iron or easy press, easy press is the clear winner. Iron on stays on fine for me, but I also am careful about washing on delicates and not drying. I put a wooden cutting board on the ironing board and it seems to be a hard enough surface.
That said, for a business, I would probably use a heat press. I chose easy press over heat press based on a few things - 1. price, 2. convenience, and most importantly, 3. safety - I was worried about my kids burning themselves on a heat press.

Not sure if you know this - You don't have to pay the monthly subscription. That is only for access to designs and fonts. You can use any font that is installed on your computer and you can upload endless images. I run a business, have 2 cricuts and have been doing this for close to 3 years with the explore. I have never paid the subscription and am missing nothing. But for me I create my own designs and upload. But you can find tons on google and just upload.

I get all my fonts free on dafont.com and I have the design software so I can trace anything.
