Vegetable Garden

My son wants us to plant a vegetable garden...and it would be something nice we could do together. I can probably google on how to start one and I will definitely make sure its in a spot where the sprinklers hit it, lol, but actually my main concern is the animals at night. We def get a good amount of racoons in our area - does anyone have an issue with animals getting into their garden, anything I can do to avoid?

Re: Vegetable Garden

Fence it in with chicken wire and make sure to bury the wire about a foot into the ground to keep the suckers from digging under it.

Vegetable Garden

We do one every year and we have a ton of raccoons around. They don't seem to bother with it much. I think they'd much rather tear into my garbage, lol. We do put up chicken wire but we don't bury it. Now if you have any rabbits around, they will definitely get into it.

Re: Vegetable Garden

We've had raccoons around, but they never bother our garden - we also have a fence around the garden. The BIGGEST pest in our garden every single year are freakin' squirrels. I hate them. They basically go in, destroy the garden and leave half eaten veggies around.

Re: Vegetable Garden

Squirrels are our problem too. I've heard that putting an owl statue deters them but I have yet to try it. I do know that my dog doesn't deter them at all.

Re: Vegetable Garden

I can't even grow flowers in my yard due to the rabbits and God knows what else eating them. Forget veges.
What I do is grow herbs and small things in a high planter box... out of reach of the critters.

It's the best I can do!

Squirrels & rabbits are our issue. They love to half-eat our tomatoes.Chat Icon
