Does anyone read anymore??? - FB rant
Total first world problem, but just a huge pet peeve for me.
I belong to a bunch of FB groups where people frequently ask for recommendations - for service providers, restaurants, whatever. It amazes me how people just respond like they haven't even read what the other person is looking for. Last week I posted looking for restaurant recommendations for SUFFOLK county, south shore - got some responses for Freeport, Farmingdale and Great Neck - hello, did you not READ what I was looking for.
Then yesterday, someone posted, asking for recommendations for an OFF Broadway show. People were responding with Dear Evan Hansen, Book of Mormon, etc. Someone else posted asking for a restaurant in Rockville Centre and the first response was for a restaurant in East Islip - yeah, OK, that's close!  Did you not READ what the person was asking for???
OK - just needed to vent - thanks!

I completely agree. I think it's because some people have this compulsion to be "helpful" even when they don't have anything to offer.
I've asked for recommendations on FB and about 80% of them are completely useless to me.

OMG - was just saying this to someone.
We only have 4 identified snow days on the calendar and this is number 4. So I asked where 5 would come from (since we're supposed to get over a foot today where I am).
People answered exactly the details I gave in my post about the previous snow days.
People didn't seem to read my post and provided incorrect info (it is not snow day 2 or 3, it's snow day 4)
The list goes on and on.
Not one person of the 30 or so who responded answered my question!!!

LOL.
I feel like people are in such a damn rush, they don't read the whole question. All they see is restaurant recommendation so they start rattling off their faves. I'm not on FB, but I notice it a lot in emails. I ask two or three questions and only the first one is answered. Like, really? You can't read the whole thing and respond.

But the best is when you ask for a restaurant in queens, for example, and they say “I know you said queens, but this place in riverhead...”. Oh lord yes because I want. To drive 2 hours for steak.

Lol. I totally agree.
I took a class at work once and the numbers were insane as to how much information is presented to us a day - and how much we can actually process. Which leads to people not actually reading things fully. And yes, I am guilty of that too - especially with work emails.

Different but related, I hate it when people respond to questions on Amazon with "I don't know, I haven't gotten the item yet", or something similar.
I realize that Amazon sends out emails to people that have purchased the item that has a question, but you don't HAVE to answer! If you have no answer, just don't write anything!

Omg, this is so annoying! I was reading reviews for a coffee maker the other day and someone asked whether you could use fine ground coffee in a pour over coffee maker. Someone responded with "there's no way of knowing." Ummm, what? Just stay out of it if you don't have an answer.

People are more interested in their opinion than whether it is answering the question or is helpful.
Yes we all see a lot of information every day.... If you're too overwhelmed to read and comprehend the 2 sentence question... not only are you, your own problem, you're now becoming my (too much information) problem.
My other pet peeve is when people post to a message board or facebook a question that is a thing that is easily available on google.

I agree with all of this! Another pet peeve of mine is when someone will make a post, they'll get the correct answer and then 20 more people will reply with the same thing. Like "When do swim lessons start?" 8am, 8:00am, at 8. 8am at the school, I think at 8. It was answered already - you don't have to reply!!
