Doctors overbilling insurance?

I went to the eye dr for an eye exam. I have a vision plan which covers all of this. Today I received an EOB from my health insurance. The dr also billed them for the exam. Should I say something? If they ask me for the health insurance copayment I am going to refuse. I don’t understand how they can do this.

Re: Doctors overbilling insurance?

Is this an actual MD like an Ophthalmologist?
Or an optomologist like at a Davis Vision or place like that?

It’s not a chain but they sell glasses there. It was an exam for glasses. They’ve never billed my health insurance before. If the eye coverage paid for the comprehensive exam should the health insurance have to pay for the exam too?

Nope not at all. Your health insurance should deny that

I have different insurance for health and glasses. My eye doctor has no idea what my heath insurance number is and not sure why you would provide it if it shouldn’t go though that insurance.

Doctors overbilling insurance?

i'm smack in the middle of combining the two insurances... ONLY because my regular eye exam found the cataracts.

your health insurance should deny it and that office doesn't need to know any of your health insurance information. all they need to know is your eye plan info.

When I go to my ophthalmologist it goes through my health insurance.

When I go to my optometrist (for contacts) it goes through my vision benefits.

When I get glasses/contacts it goes through my vision benefits.

I would never give my ophthalmologist my vision benefits info; I would never give my optometrist my health insurance info.

I agree. You vision plan and the places you go to use that plan should never ever ask for you medical insurance info. I would just tell them I don't have medical insurance if they insist.
They aren't even medical doctors!

This is wrong. You should call your health insurance company and report it. This is the exact reason they send Explanation of Benefits when something is billed.
