Stomach virus or flu and what works?
My son was fine yesterday, at 6 am woke up vomiting and really couldn’t stop for a while. No fever no cough no trouble breathing— I think it’s probably stomach bug but someone mentioned could be start of flu? I’m hesitant to go to urgent care and get him more sick ... I finally got him to drink some pedia light. Has anyone’s kids had this — how long did it last and how sick did they get? He’ seems very very sick but no fever ...... I absolutely hate the winter!!

It sounds like the stomach virus I would just try to keep him hydrated the virus typically passes in 24 hours
Hope he feels better!

Re: Stomach virus or flu and what works?
Both my kids had the flu and they did not have vomiting but a high fever. It sounds like a stomach bug. I read somewhere that grape juice helps. Anytime anyone get a stomach bug I go out and stock up lol idk if it does anything but I HATE stomach bugs so I am willing to try anything.

Flu is generally respiratory. At least to start. This sounds like a stomach virus

Re: Stomach virus or flu and what works?
Both kids, myself and dh had the stomach bug this week. It lasted way longer for us than the kids. None of us had a fever. We only had stomach aches. If it's anything like what we went through the worst is like 12 hours. The kids were fine after that but dh and I had lingering stomach issues for a few days.

Stomach virus or flu and what works?
DS had it last week. Vomited for about 6 hours Sunday, then for another 6 hours Monday. Had 101 fever. Was begging me for candy after the last time he threw up, believe it or not. It just has to run its course. Hope he feels better!

100.3 is barely a fever, I wouldn't even medicate for that. I would lean more toward stomach virus still. My 5yo did have a long virus that started with nausea and a little vomiting, then progressed to a cough and fever so anything can happen.

Re: Stomach virus or flu and what works?
Stomach viruses can come with fevers. The flu is generally not a stomach ailment. When all 3 of us had flu in my house a few years back, nobody was vomiting. Low appetite, yes. Not wanting to eat much. But no throwing up. It's most likely just a stomach bug.

Re: Stomach virus or flu and what works?
Agreed with PP- doesn't sound like a flu. DH is down with the flu right now and started out with fever and body aches. No vomiting and he's on day 3.
ETA: 100 degrees isn't high at all! DH's been at 103 with the flu. Don't make yourself crazy. I'd give him tylenol or motrin if he can take it, but if his stomach is that sick, he'll probably just throw it back up. Just keep him hydrated and comfortable. Hope he's feeling better soon!

I would take him to the doctor if you are concerned. I know some people have had a fever, vomiting with the flu.
I know people don't consider 100.3 a fever, but, I do. Normal temp for our family is around 98.7....so to me that is a fever and I would treat it as such.
