Pre lit. Putting on the lights is the worst part so I only get prelim.

Re: Fake tree-pre-lit or bare?

Sadly it's bare. We got it when we bought our house like 15 years ago and back then prelits weren't really big and the ones they had were crazy expensive! I want to get a prelit one sooo bad because it's such a pain putting the lights on but I LOVE our tree. It looks so real and it fits in the tight spot we have for it.
Plus I feel bad getting rid of a perfectly good tree so....

Pre-lit 100%! Ours has a foot pedal that you can click to change the lights -- solid white, solid colored, twinkling white, twinkling colored, etc. No joke, it has 10 options. My DD's favorite thing to do in the mornings the month of December is to "change the tree" and click the foot pedal until she's happy with the mode its in!

ours is Pre lit, but one of my sections has burned out so we add a string of lights to it.
Trees are pricey I would love one of the new pre lit flocked ones but I will hold off a few more years.

My mom put the lights on and left them on when she took down the tree. DIY pre lit tree.

Our tree comes apart though. Each branch comes out of the pole individually. So when we take it down, we basically take the whole damn thing apart. And you are left with a pole and about 50 individual branches.

And then to put it back together- OMG. You have to gather all the branches for each level (they have color coded stickers on them) and put it back in pieces.

HUGE PIA

Re: Fake tree-pre-lit or bare?

fake...bare. If you have a pre- lit tree and sections go out, you have to add lights to it, and I dont like the way it looks.

PRE-LIT!

And it's only 3 big pieces. It takes 5 mins to put it together and take it apart. I love it.

Re: Fake tree-pre-lit or bare?

We had pre-lit - it last a few years, then sections went out and well... about 2 years ago I cut the damn lights off.

Now each year, I put lights on. I will never get another pre-lit tree again.

Re: Fake tree-pre-lit or bare?

Yeah see that's my question/concern with pre lit.

What happens when areas go out?
Can you replace bad bulbs that are causing sections to go out?
Do you have to put regular lights on when that happens?
Do you have to get rid of the tree?

I would imagine the new pre lits might have LED lights- which last a lot longer right?

You would have to cut the existing lights off and then put regular lights on. My mother had do do that a few years back...but that was well after a decade of having the tree, so it lasted a really long time!

Re: Fake tree-pre-lit or bare?

Pre-Lit. Makes life a little easier

Now I wish I could keep ornaments on it and put it away with a big cover on it (Like I used to with my little 4 footer in my old apartment)

But this thing is really big and it would never make it to the basement without incident lol
