Dd is in kindergarten. She is very outgoing. She has gotten in trouble for talking too much already. I'm sure it happens more than I get notified for because I know how she is socially.

Last night she asked me if I could make her beautiful tomorrow so she can get picked to be the weather person today. I asked her why she thinks she has to be beautiful for this and if she's ever done it yet etc. she got mad and said "just make me beautiful tomorrow". She has NEVER said anything about her looks, nor did she ever seem to care.

My gut is telling me she probably doesn't get picked bc she talks too much. I always second guess myself on if I should bother the teacher, but I also keep thinking about it and want to know why she's thinking like this now. would you email the teacher and at least ask the process she has for the weather person so I can hopefully explain it better to dd?

Yes absolutely.
I find that the teachers are always so helpful when you email them and they really help with anything you are unsure of or you feel your child is struggling with or if you just have a question.

I would definitely email and ask about the weather person and how they are picked and explain the situation.

I am like you, always afraid to email the teacher for anything. But so many other parents do email the teacher, and I think it is okay.

In your case, I would email the teacher and just word it as you said - I just want to know the process for how you choose the weather person so I can better explain to her how children are chosen. And I'd let the teacher know she thinks she needs to look beautiful in order to be chosen.

Don't feel like your bothering the teacher to ask a question about class procedure. Part of their job is too communicate with parents, especially when there are concerns.

I would share what your child said, and ask what the actual process for being chosen is so you can have the proper conversation with your child about it.

I wouldn't ask. I'm sure they all just take turns, and in a class of 20 kids it probably feels like forever since their last turn.

I agree.

I regret not reaching out to my DS's kinder teacher. I didn't want to be "that" mom. But then I realized that I was my son's advocate...it was my JOB to be "that" mom.

The following year (and years), I reached out to his teachers for various things throughout the school year. He's had some great teachers, and I'm glad I contacted them whenever I had a question or a concern.

Re: A wwyd

Just wanted to add a thought, is it possible the request to look beautiful is unrelated to her wanting to be picked? I have two girls in elementary school and sometimes they will come home with requests about things to wear or styles for their hair etc based on a plan they made with friends. "Like tomorrow everyone should get dressed up".

I'm not sure I would email the teacher. I'd probably just wait it out and ask at parent teacher conferences if she still wasn't chosen.

I kind of agree with this and would wait for conferences (depending when they are). I would also explain to DD that you will make her "beautiful" for school but let her know that the students do not get picked because of their looks and that she is beautiful every day....

This. But I would definitely talk to your daughter more and ask questions about why she is saying she wants to look beautiful.

I would ask. I’m a teacher. You’re not bothering me if you are truly concerned about your kid. The comment that she thinks being beautiful is associated with the weather makes me feel like it is something that needs to be addressed.

I'm going to guess that the teacher said something along the lines of "Jane, you look beautiful today, would you like to do the weather today?" So your daughter wants to look "beautiful" so she will get picked. I probably wouldn't email the teacher about it to be honest.

I probably wouldn't ask. I am a teacher, and while I would not in any way be annoyed/bothered to receive an e-mail about this, I just don't think i would personally ask about it. If I had a question regarding my child's academics or behavior in class I would call but that's really it.
