From Sarah Huckabee Sanders, today is a day to mourn and it's not the time a nor place to discuss gun control. This country averages a mass shooting every day. When the f are we supposed to discus this?

She's an a$$hole. Sadly, it's the PERFECT time to discuss it. In fact, the conversation should've already been happening, now it's TOO LATE...............again.

Another day another mass shooting in the world's most civilized forward-thinking country. Enough with the thoughts and prayers and pity party already. They don't do shit. Thoughts and prayers = oh well, I'm just glad it wasn't me or my loved ones (for now). Thank goodness we have facebook in times like these. So everyone can feel better by posting the same profile pic of a single tear and tell us where they were when it happened, then follow it with a pic of their latest meal or workout.

No law is fool proof. People still drive while intoxicated despite it being illegal. They still speed, run traffic lights, text while driving, drive without a license or insurance, underage drink, buy drugs, gamble, evade taxes, pirate music and movies, shoplift, litter, grafitti, and break every single other law on the books. They always have and always will. Should we just do away with all laws because people will still get around them? You should be able to shoot assault rifles in your backyard for fun and your neighbor should be able to open a brothel on your block.

Kinder eggs are banned. Fuckking chocolate eggs. I have to drive to a dock at midnight and find a guy named Lefty to get one, or smuggle them across the border in my ass if I want one. But I can easily hoard and stockpile as many assault weapons as I want and I wouldn't even set off any red flags. That's American logic for you.

I haven't been on fb, what kind of ridiculousness are they posting now? They had German and French flags, then rainbow flags. What is it now, little cowboy boots and cowboy hats? Little slot machines? Chat Icon

Pictures of the Vegas strip and the famous Welcome to Las Vegas Sign with the thoughts and prayers printed over that.
Prayers for Vegas!

I always wondered who made these things so quickly.
The shooter is still shooting and the FB memes and thoughts and prayers profile pic overlays are already popping up.
Is someone assigned to doing this stuff?

Whatever useless thing makes people feel like they've contributed and feel better for two minutes about no change EVER happening and all of us just being sitting ducks for the next piece of shit that snaps. They should just post a target symbol with a countdown to the next mass shooting. That would be the most accurate depiction they can post. If you live anywhere in America and you can leave your house you're already a potential next victim. It's a sad fact and I don't think many people realize that or want to think about it. It's definitely easier to go about your day if you ignore this fact. It's easier to post a pic of dinner or a Game of Thrones meme than to think about the twenty first graders that were killed instead of enjoying another day of recess and finger painting and never getting another princess or superhero birthday party. It's easier than to think and know that it can and eventually will happen again. But we don't know what school will be next. It's easier to ignore this fact. Your age, your sex, your race, your religion, your orientation, your occupation, your status won't save you or spare you. This is the one thing that makes us all equal. You could be in school, in church, on the subway, in a library, at a restaurant, in a park, at the beach, checking in at a hotel or airport, at the supermarket, at your kid's little league game, at a concert, sporting event, in a parking lot, and you could be gunned down by a lunatic with an assault weapon that was legally purchased. Thank your congress people for this sad fact. At least we're all safe from those dangerous but delicious Kinder eggs.

But these guns need to remain legal because there are people that just enjoy shooting them.
They aren't looking to hurt anyone, they just enjoy shooting them.
So we should all have to live in fear... because we can't take away a fun hobby from the people who have a grand old time shooting assault weapons in their spare time.

What happened in Vegas is devestating and I feel for those families. I am not a gun person and think assault weapons should be banned but there is a reason that the laws havent changed and probably never will. Any president could sign an executive order banning assualt rifles, yet none ever do.

To play devil's advocate...per the CDC in 2015 over 10,000 people died in alcohol related car accidents. I don't see a lot of outrage for the innocent people involved . People aren't calling for alcohol to be illegal and un-attainable. Curious what the difference is. For people saying they are afraid to go anywhere, you have a better chance of being killed by a drunk driver than you do being in a mass shooting. Alcohol has no purpose except people enjoy drinking it.

First of all, they did already make alcohol illegal. They're not going to do it again.

Secondly, there are considerable restrictions on purchasing and consuming alcohol, and there are also significant consequences when you get caught driving drunk. The bartender who served you can get arrested if you get in your car loaded and kill someone. An adult who provides minors with alcohol can go to jail and assuming they're parents, risk losing custody of their children. You can lose your car, your license, your livelihood if you get arrested for driving drunk.

Parents who are irresponsible with their guns and leave them lying around so their children can shoot each other in the face suffer no such consequences. If I'm irresponsible with storing my gun and you come and steal it from me and then go on a murdering rampage, I suffer no consequences for my irresponsibility. There are things that NEED to be done, that should be done, that anyone with a freakin soul would want done to restrict gun ownership.. to compel people to be more responsible gun owners... but they don't because our politicians are a bunch of money hungry soul-less sons of b*tches. I really hate today.

Re: Mass shooting at Las Vegas concert

Another issue is that different states have different laws. In NY ..you cannot own an assault rifle. But if you live down south. .you can practically walk in the streets with one. It's insane

It's different because as stupid and irresponsible as it is to drink and drive, those people are not going out saying, "I am going to go kill a bunch of people tonight." Columbine, Aurora, Newtown, Orlando, Las Vegas, etc. were all people who consciously went out to end lives. They said to themselves, "I am getting up today and murdering innocent people." They planned it, with the worst weapons they could get their hands on. That's how it's different.

Mass shooting at Las Vegas concert

Yes, Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, the time is now to have this discussion.
The laws aren't worth the paper they're printed on. You're sick of me saying it? The bad guy will always get the gun.
Many of you proposed making it illegal to own firearms. Fine. Ban all civilian ownership of any and all firearms.
How do you then propose to confiscate over 300 MILLION legally owned firearms, not to mention all of the illegally owned firearms in circulation?

President Obama, just days after Sandy Hook, issued an Executive Plan consisting of 4 parts: closed background check loopholes, baned assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, increasing school safety and increasing access to mental health services for anyone who needed them.
In addition to an Executive order, Obama made a dozen or so recommendations to Congress, many of which were followed through upon, albeit not thoroughly.

So to say that our President or our Congress did nothing is just false. They did something, they came together to try and make sense of this, and they tried something.
Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it didn't do ANYTHING.

I have yet to hear from our Congressmen/women, government officials, or civilians an actual viable plan that will prevent the rash of mass shootings in the US.

There is no viable plan for reasons you just stated. Confiscating legally (and illegally) owned guns is impossible. It would also increase the black market to buy guns leading to even less control than we have now. Politicians on both sides will continue to support the NRA because it lines their pockets. I am all for having strict gun laws (and I would be fine with a total ban). It isn't going to stop these incidents.

Sorry, but just because a drunk doesn't say I am going to kill someone tonight doesn't make it any less horrific that thousands of people die a year because of it, so that people can enjoy a glass of wine. It just isn't a piliticalky charged topic so people aren't in an uproar about it.

So even with all these rules and restrictions 10,000 people a year die at the hands of people that abuse alcohol and drive. But there is no outrage. I guess I don't see how it is different.

There is outrage against drunk driving. There are groups that organize themselves by taking a stand against it. There are also prevention programs in place. There are sobriety checkpoints set up by law enforcement, designated driver programs, accountability, and money spent on educating the public against driving while intoxicated. Many bars also have prevention plans in place and train their staff to be vigilant. Sadly, none of this can be said about deaths by firearm. It's also reasonable to think that unless someone drinks and drives their car into a school building, a classroom of first graders and their teachers are generally safe from being mowed down by a drunk driver. A bunch of concert-goers don't have to fear that a drunk driver will plow them down while they're two-stepping to their favorite song at a venue. A group of people worshipping don't have to fear drunk drivers in their place of worship. Anytime you are on the road, whether driving or as a pedestrian, you assume a risk of being struck by a vehicle, operated by a sober driver or otherwise. Just like anytime you swim you assume the risk of drowning. Drunk drivers also don't kill 58 people at once. They don't premeditate their plan, and they don't get behind the wheel with the express intention of killing as many people as possible before killing themselves before law enforcement can reach them. Drunk driving also isn't generally caused by mental illness. A person doesn't just snap and make a conscious decision to drive drunk. These are two different beasts and I really don't see the comparison.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Over and over, we send our thoughts and prayers. Over and over, nothing changes.

Thoughts and prayers are doing jack $h!t.

Its sad. I'm not surprised anymore. Of course I think its horrific and I feel for the victims and families but I feel desensitized to it all. I'm horrified but not entirely shocked about this

I don't even know what to say anymore.

There is no excuse.

It's common sense.

A majority of Americans are in favor of many gun control measures.

The NRA wields enormous power over the Republican party and even some Democrats.

We're governed by a small minority of lunatics.

ITA with you!! It's so insane.

I'm SO tired of the argument that "it's out right" OR "people kill people" OR "stricter laws won't change anything". It's all ignorant and stupid.

As a nation, we can do better. Period. To say that stricter laws "won't matter" is stupidity at its finest. By that measure I guess we shouldn't bother with any laws at all, let's all just do whatever the hell we want. After all, even with speeding laws people will still speed. Sure, you can go to jail for murder but you know what, people are going to do it anyway so why bother with murder laws and punishment. Stop signs? Take 'em down........people will still drive through them anyway.

When you put it in the context of other punishable things in this country it sounds so fcuking stupid to say, "stricter gun laws won't help". Of course it will help. Will the problem go away completely? No. But if even a few lives are saved by making it that much more difficult to obtain and own a firearm then it's worth it. To that end, it should also be federally regulated. All 50 states across the board should have the EXACT same rules and stipulations in place for obtaining a firearm. What is the sense in bothering with rules at all if someone can drive an hour into another state and purchase guns anyway thanks to loopholes and lesser regulations?

Trump is a fcuking useless piece of $hit where this matter is concerned because it's more important for him to look like a big, tough guy who advocates for the NRA instead of doing the right thing by the American people. WHY on earth would you EVER reverse a piece of legislation that makes it HARDER for someone who is mentally incapacitated to obtain a firearm? I cannot fathom what that twit was thinking.

Trump, EVERY president, should be cracking down on this issue. HOW MANY AMERICANS HAVE TO DIE BEFORE WE TRY AND DO BETTER?????!!!! We have jacka$$es in this country chanting for a wall and calling for unfair travel bans because "we need to keep out the enemy". Meanwhile, the "enemy" is in our OWN backyard. It's average AMERICANS, usually white males, that are inciting these violent massacres. But build a wall. Deport hard working Americans. Yes, that makes perfect sense. And while Trump and his dumb base are concerning themselves with that nonsense, AMERICANS will continue to KILL OUR OWN. That is FACT.

NOBODY, and I do mean NOBODY, in this country needs to own an automatic weapon for ANY reason. There is literally NO reason in general to even own a weapon at all. For all those who love to chant that "when $hit goes down, who do you think will protect you? Yea, those with guns"..............I'd like to ask, WHERE WERE YOU THE NIGHT OF THIS ATTACK? Where were all the tough guys with their guns protecting the people who were being slaughtered in cold blood? Oh that's right, you did nothing with your little guns and weapons because when the $hit actually does go down, you're as helpless as the rest of us.

I don't want to live in a world where I have to worry about myself or my kids going to a concert, the mall, a club, or even school. Something NEEDS to be done NOW because the staus quo is NOT working. I don't care about anyone's 2nd amendment rights, our forefathers didn't mean for Americans to be gun toting crazies. When they penned that "right" they thought it might be beneficial if someone had a silly little musket in their shack in the woods to protect themselves in a time of uncertainty. In civilized, modern America..................nobody NEEDS high powered firearms. "Right to bear arms" ONLY matters UNTIL it's YOU who is affected by gun violence. Until it's YOU who is the victim. Until it's YOU who loses someone you love at the hands of some lunatic American that feels that it's HIS RIGHT to own firearms. Wake up America and put an end to this. It's not going to get any better until we take ACTION. Now.

From what I can gather, semi automatic weapons can be altered to be made fully automatic which is illegal or can be legally altered to fire faster. Automatic weapons are legal they're just highly regulated and expensive (not an issue for this guy).

Which is why regular people should not have semi automatic weapons either-period.

Reasons to own a gun:
Self defense. If you need a semi automatic assault rifle for self defense, maybe you should move our find new friends.

Hunting. Where the he!! Are you hunting that you need assault rifles? Is Bambi packing heat or wearing body armor?

Sport? Well, shooting guns to me is not a sport. So... Yeah

I know that from the politics board you think anyone who questions the government or laws are stupid, right? You always come around with your little wooden spoon ready to stir some shit and then you keep coming back saying, "well this and this isn't bothering you so why is that and that?" Your moral superiority is astounding.

I suppose you're simply so perfect in life that you have an answer for everything and we're all just a bunch of morons. You add literally nothing of value to the dialogue.

Well that's just horrifying.

I just cannot wrap my mind around a civilized first world nation allowing these kinds of assault weapons in the hands of the public "for sport", allowing the average citizen to be better armed than the average police officer because of a loophole in an ancient law drafted at a time when these typs of weapons not only didn't exist but couldn't even be conceived in the minds of lawmakers of that time. It makes no sense whatsoever. We aren't talking about rights to own a handgun to protect your property and family here. We live in a country where multiple mass shootings occur on the same day but the one with the highest body count wins the media coverage. We're sick! And we have no reason to feel superior to any other nation.

To anyone who thinks now is the time to mourn and not to discuss this problem - no, this conversation is long overdue. How many innocent people have to die in vain before our spineless government finally does the right thing? Of ALL of the fuckked up problems we have in this country THIS problem should be a no-brainer.

I think I'd like to send a letter to our officials letting them know that if I ever am the unfortunate victim of one of these shootings I would like to give up my right to a day of mourning and have them go straight to solving this horrific problem. Now is the time, twenty years ago was an even better time.

We can't buy lawn darts in this country despite people enjoying the sport bc kids got hurt. When is enough enough? Last week a toddler shot two 3yos at their in home daycare. We should be better than this.

You didn't ask why it's less horrific, you asked why it was different. It still is horrific. The intent is different.

Most recently, Leandra's Law made it a felony to drive under the influence with a child in the car, as a response to a horrific accident involving a child. So people are in an uproar, and changes are being made.

First of all, it's not too early to start talking about guns; it's actually too late.

Second, drunk driving should have a punishment attached that is so bad that any sane person would be terrified to do it. So should distracted driving.

Cameras, body cameras, cell phone records. We should be using everything we have to go after offenders. The life we save may be yours.
