Teaching jobs on LI

So I know teaching jobs are hard to come by on Long Island. What's the best way to go about looking a job? Olas???? LinkedIn?????

I got my LI job 11 years ago on OLAS. Many districts use it, but some do not subscribe to that service and instead do postings in the NY Times employment section. You also can go onto each individual district's website and find the human resources/job opportunities section. I've never taught in the DOE, but have many friends that do. Many of them reached out directly to the principals of the schools they were interested in within the DOE -- sent a resume and cover letter, e-mailed them, etc. That's not how things work on LI. When my chairmen gets random e-mails from candidates looking for jobs, he deletes them.

OLAS. Plainview-Old Bethpage, Oceanside, and a few others don't post to olas, so you can go to their site directly and look for openings

Oceanside is on OLAS.

OLAS is going to be your best bet. I had a list typed out of non-OLAS districts, but it's MIA because we moved recently. The way I made my list is there are 124 districts on Long Island. Print out the list from Here (Wikipedia) . Then go on OLAS, go to Long Island, and click on Districts. Cross out each school district on the list that is on OLAS. You'll be left with the districts that use their own hiring system. Visit those websites once a week to look for new postings.

Off the top of my head, including Plainview-Old Bethpage already mentioned, school districts not on OLAS are Bay Shore, Sayville, Central Islip, Jericho, Half Hollow Hills, Hewlett-Woodmere, Moriches, and a bunch of the smaller districts out on the forks. But you will have a better list if you check a list of school districts against OLAS.

oh ok i don't think oceanside used to be! That's a good idea to figure out who hires separate from OLAS

Your list is outdated. Hewlett-Woodmere and Plainview now post on OLAS. A lot of districts used to think that it was better to not be on OLAS because they wanted candidates that wanted to specifically teach in their district. However, over the past few years since OLAS became the go to place, more and more districts started posting on OLAS to make sure they caught all quality candidates.

I suggest you use these links http://www.hofstra.edu/academics/colleges/soeahs/cess/cess_resource_nassau.html and http://www.hofstra.edu/academics/colleges/soeahs/cess/cess_resource_suffolk.html

My search was mostly Nassau so here are some links I used:
https://www.nassauboces.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=515
https://www.schoolleadershipjobs.com/
http://www.hhhta.com/category/job-postings/
http://readingandwritingproject.org/resources/job-board
http://tceleminclusive.pressible.org/topic/job-opportunity
For private schools - http://www.nysais.org/page.cfm?p=2901

Also, check New York Times in print Sunday because some districts like the prestige of posting in NYT because they think it will mean a certain caliber of teacher.

Sometimes Districts post on both OLAS and their Web site or just post on their Web site so you have to keep an eye out.

Unlike a few years ago, the market is easier. I've heard Principals say they're having trouble finding quality candidates when 5 or 6 years ago the problem was too many quality candidates.
