I'm just gonna say it. The politics board is such an effing cop out
I'm so angry. This is ridiculous. There are things happening EVERY DAY that threaten people's lives and rights and some of you have the privilege of being able to ignore it and don't want to be bothered, and that's gross. You, the person who will report this to be moved, yes YOU and those like you are the VERY PEOPLE this country needs right now to stand up and be vocal, to fight and resist so that those who are having their rights and their health threatened aren't alone.
Can anyone here honestly say - and I know you won't answer but just THINK to yourself - are you HONESTLY okay with the president's family (and likely him himself) colluding with a foreign government t influence the election? What about taking away health insurance from an additional 18m people? Oh, and saying that people willing to RISK THEIR LIVES to defend YOU can not serve because of their gender identity? If these are all a-okay by you - take a long look at yourself.
And if they aren't, get your damn head out of the sand and get involved.

Thank you for putting this out there. It is absolutely sickening what is happening. Horrifying. I am embarrassed to say that I feel like I am burying my head in the sand. Right after the election I was obsessed with all of this. I was constantly watching the news and reading up on things. Then I realized I was spending my evenings watching everything unfold and also dreaming about it. So I stopped watching. I think it is very easy to become apathetic to it all. It just feels so overwhelming and scary.
I wish I felt there was more people could do. The only thing I feel like I have done is I go out of my way to be kind to and help anyone out in public that I see. Which I know is nothing in the grand scheme of things...just trying to be more compassionate to others. I would love to hear how others are feeling.

I just want to add that I don't think there should be a politics board. I understand that people might not want to be "bothered" by it, but then just don't open the post. I would actually welcome a trump supporter that could offer something insightful that could possibly make others and me feel like this is not the end of our country. It most certainly feels like we're reaching a point of no return.

I totally agree. I am SICKENED by anyone sticking their head in the sand as well as those defending this shit president and his sh*tty discriminatory bully policies. This isn't just politics/DNC vs GOP as usual. I feel our government has been hijacked by an ego maniac lunatic. None of us can afford to deny this DISASTER. This guy is a danger and he's got to be stopped somehow.

Nothing could ever convince me that there was any good reason whatsoever to vote for him. Anyone who could consider themselves intelligent could not possibly have voted for him.
Having said that, this isn't about the election anymore. This is about "we saw the writing on the wall a long time ago, and now you just rammed into the wall"
The Boy Scouts Speech put me over the edge.

I'm just gonna reply. Because some people do plenty to make their voices heard. All day, every day. And plenty of people struggle to live all day in this nonsense without losing their effing minds. So some folks actually come to places like LIF to take few minutes out of their crazy day and try to relax. Pregnancies, buying a home, throwing a party for a loved one, taking a vacation....lots of things that still have to go on. I am not sure how the continuation of separating things by topic makes it a cop out.

It is entirely possible to want to use these boards for other things.
And to be honest it's posts like these that are the reason why I stay away from that board
Because if I'm not up par with what some posters want I'm ignoring the issue or just plain stupid

I watched CNN tonight with a German friend (to be fair I haven't watched CNN in about 3 months, but i keep up on matters by reading). I was like this (Trump) is so embarrassing. All he could say was that it was great entertainment  . So yeah, that's one opinion from overseas.
However, all of what is going on now wasn't on the Tagesschau (daily news shown at 8 PM), so that's good, I guess.

So please don't make broad statements just because you don't feel like we aren't doing enough when you have zero clue about what any of us are doing.

And to be honest the people who want to bury their head in the sand will do it regardless if their is a separate board or not. If all political posts were in FHF those people would just see the title and not open it. So what difference does it make what board it is on?
If there was no TTC board and people posted their TTC threads on parenting I would just skip them because it doesn't interest me. Same with people who aren't interested in discussing politics. It doesn’t matter where the thread is posted....if they don't want to know about or discuss it, they just won't open it

The reason the political board was made was because many posters can not have an adult debate about the issues without resorting to name calling and personal attacks. Not posting on a political board does not mean people are not informed and have their head in the sand, maybe it's just none of your business what they are doing.

What does posting about politics on here do? Who does it help? What change does it bring? You're not taking action by posting on a message board. Sharing your opinion is not taking action.
I'll repeat it - just because I don't post here doesn't mean I don't care. This isn't real life to me, it's a message board...on the internet...full of people I don't know.
To add to this...how DARE you call people privileged and gross when you have no clue about their everyday lives and what they are doing. Regardless of what it pertains to, that is completely out of line.

exactly. If you did not always agree with the majority, you were bullied and attacked. It was disgusting the behavior that was happening. I never look or comment on that board. I DO NOT HAVE MY HEAD BURIED IN THE SAND!! I also don't want to be involved in what was going on within this community when it came to politics.
You can see it just the way this thread is going. There are attacks throughout. If people aren't active on that board, they are being called uninformed, that they don't care and have their heads buried. Maybe they prefer just not to post on here as to not be attacked and/or keep the peace

The more I think about it, this post is totally insulting.
I didn't realize that Long Island Families was the pinnacle of newsworthy information and where we should all be drawing our political information from.
To assume that people who wanted a politics board to keep the boards organized like they are supposed to be or who don't post on the threads on that board are gross and privileged and have their heads in the sand is truly ignorant.
There are plenty of places and ways to take political action, there are plenty of sources to get your information from, there are plenty of ways to be outraged and "fight back"- and I don't think Long Island Families is even close to being on any of those lists.

Actually, the politics board was created because a few people were complaining that they had to scroll through too many political posts to find the posts on other family related issues. It literally had NOTHING to do with how people were debating politics.
As for having a separate board, I am fine with it. If people want to talk about or debate politics they will do it whether it is a separate board or not. However, I will say that the FHF board had MUCH more activity when the politics threads were on there. Now the same posts just sit around for days but in general, these forums all seem pretty dead lately.
