ongoing constipation in baby
My daughter will be one at the end of the month. About 2 months ago she started having a lot of difficulty passing a bowel movement. when it comes out finally it is a large hard ball. I have tried miralax, prune juice, and suppositories. None have helped. Just started probiotics. I started her on whole milk last week with the hope it may help, it has stayed the same. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

milk constipated my daughter.
you have to do the miralax until she's really loose then cut back. I just went through this with my 4 yr old. I would see a GI doctor.

Milk is very constipating.
When DD transitioned she got backed up too
I'd call your ped and ask what they recommend you do

Thanks. She was very constipated before
The milk so while I'm thinking the milk isn't helping I don't think it was the cause. If you used miralax did you feel like your child became dependent on it to go?

No. It's taking a while to get over with miralax but since I've really dosed her until it was super super loose she's had no problem. I actually haven't given it to her in a while. I've always suspected a milk allergy or sensitivity. Had her tested as an infant and it was negative but I always cut out on the milk. Does she eat a lot of cheese/dairy/ yogurt. From our GI, she's on lactaid for a few months. She hasn't had yogurt in a long time and has been better. It's the lactose in things. Cheese she still eats.

Is she drinking enough water? My ds was always constipated. I started pushing water. The days that he drinks a lot, he has no issues going. When he doesn't drink as much he gets constipated again.

My DDs both have this problem... they can poop pellets. DS with same diet just has a different digestive system... and has amazingly soft poops.
Our ped has us cut the whole milk with water (so, 3/4 whole milk and 1/4 water). It worked well. Too much dairy was our issue. When really bad, we made stewed prunes and pears. Man, that works 100%. Blueberries help too. We eat a lot of those.

Wanted to add that roasting sweet potatoes in olive oil is a guarantee to get things moving for my kid. She tends to sweat a lot and not drink enough in the summertime but loves fruit, so we always have watermelon around too.
