Do you do weekly or biweekly maintenance? If so, what does your pool company charge and what do they do?

This is the first summer in our house that we will actually be using the pool and we don't really know what we are doing. DH wants to hire someone for weekly maintenance for the first summer until we get a handle on what we need to do. I got a quote from the company that opened our pool and I have no idea if this low, high or the norm.

Re: For those with an in-ground pool

I do everything myself. I vacuum it, and take the water sample to my pool store bi-weekley to have the water tested. I have a salt water pool.
I may invest in buying a robot for cleaning, but need to to some research.
My pool guy would charge $65 to clean the pool.
My pool guy charged me @200 to open the pool. He sets up the pump, salt water system, and put in shock. I also had him vacuum it (that was extra)

Thanks this is helpful! We just converted to salt water when we opened the pool. Is your pool guy with a company or does he work on his own?

It is his own company. It is just him and 2 other guys. He is actually a guidance counselor at a school. He went to get trained and has a license to do it. Where are you located? If you want his info.

Re: For those with an in-ground pool

I only have the pool opened and closed. I am a SAHM so taking care of the pool is fine with me as I have the time to do it. Our pool is not salt, but we have a chlorinator so 1x a week I put about 4 tabs in it and every other day I drop the robot in and that is about it. Once the water chemistry is right our pool maintains itself. The only thing to do is vacuum it and if I think the water looks off, I take it to the pool store.

I have this robot Robot

Our pool is a free form pool and this robot performs well. It doesn't go up the stairs or in our seat but I just brush those areas into pool before I put robot in .

Re: For those with an in-ground pool

Our pool pretty much maintains itself.
We have the vacuum robot and once we open it and balance the water, it never really needs much.

We have an automatic mineral purifier (pool frog) that basically sanitizes the water with minerals and very little chlorine. Every 2- 3 weeks we change the chlorine pack in that thing- it slides right in

The pool never needs to be shocked or anything and never grows algae- probably due to the mineral purifier we use.

I couldn't see paying someone to do anything for it- it's pretty easy

We are in fl, so we use it year round. $75/week. We are swimming a lot in summer, def needs weekly maintenance. He checks levels, adds whatever it needs, and vacuums. In off season he comes every 2 weeks.

My husband owns a pool company and they do weekly service. It depends on a lot of different things such as size, if you have your own chemicals to use or if you need them to provide it, etc. But it generally ranges from $50-$75 a week.

Does he want to service my pool?! :) It seems I'm being quoted kind of high. A few others I've spoken to say $60-85 on the higher end and I was quoted higher than that. I know it depends on a lot of factors, but I was just thrown off guard by the price they gave me.

We have salt so the maintenance with chemicals is practically nothing now. We also have a robot vacuum for the pool so I just through that in to clean.
