Frontier flying out of Islip
Frontier will be flying direct to Orlando from Islip. They are giving really cheap fares to kick it off if anyones looking for flights.
You have to pay for bags and carry ons but the base flights I was seeing for the kick off were 29 each way.

Will they be flying anywhere else direct?
Islip is so awesome and easy but they have so few direct flights to anywhere.
It would be amazing if they had some more!

Just looked. they only fly direct to Orlando from Islip.
I wish Islip would get more direct flights or more airlines. That airport is seriously heaven on earth for me!

Same - I just do not understand why they don't do more with that airport. It's all there. I wonder if it has something to do with houses around the airport?

I love leaving from MacArthur but for some reason, the Town keeps attracting cr@p airlines. Frontier is HORRIBLE. Having it fly in and out of Islip does nothing for the airport (one flight in and one flight out a day???).
In order for the airport to survive and really thrive, they need to attract a quality airline with flights people want and need. They don't seem capable of doing so.
Even Southwest - they have dramatically decreased the number of flights in and out of the airport and the number of direct flights to anywhere has dwindled.

It's all about supply and demand and there is just not enough demand to bring in more airlines and more flights out of Islip.

This.. Flights are being cut everywhere. I've flown to so many beautiful airports in the midwest that have numerous empty gates/wings.
The airlines that are expanding and adding new destinations right now are the value ones, on popular routes.

So I looked at this yesterday. The $29 price is only available if you become a member with them (I think it was $49 for the year?). If not, prices are as cheap as $79 each way - still not horrible.

Its not about if Frontier is a good airline. Its about competition for Southwest. SW is expensive to fly out of Islip. They are no longer a discount airline out of there. I can fly cheaper on AA, Delta, Jet Blue.
Competition to SW on one of their most popular routes will be a good thing.

I agree. SW has gotten outrageous to fly out of Islip.
I pay it, when they have a direct flight to where I am going, because to me it's worth every damn cent to avoid JFK or god forbid, LGA, but some competition will do them good

I guess it's better than nothing but I really loathe being nickel and dimed like that.
To have to pay for anything bigger than a purse or laptop bag is BS.
Also it's disingenuous to say "fares starting from X" when in reality people are going to pay more. No one flies with only that small of a bag. Not to mention if you're a family you can only guarantee that you will sit together if you pay the extra fee.

Then add the fees on for bags, seats and you are right there with Southwest I'm sure. Joke of an airline, just like Spirit! $30 to CARRY ON a bag, INSANE!
