Tent Caming - How Old?

How old do you think a child should be to camp in tents for 2-3 days?

Thanks!

I've never been camping, but was thinking about giving it a shot. My DH has been camping, but it is unsure if it is age appropriate for my DS.

Re: Tent Caming - How Old?

I brought my kids camping with friends last year for 2 nights. They were 1 and almost 3. Other kids that came ranged from 6 to 11 months. It was fun. For me I was most concerned with ticks but I made them wear light sweat pants tucked into their socks and put bug spray on them (avon skin so soft brand).

I dont think there is a specific age that is appropriate. For the younger ones we had a pack and play which we let them play in there. The older ones (3-6 year olds) loved being able to run around and play. I really enjoyed it!

Tent Caming - How Old?

My daughter has been camping since before she started walking..... that was a challenge bc she was constantly crawling around in dirt... I would say once they start walking, anytime is good!

Re: Tent Caming - How Old?

I started when my boys were 6 and 4. I wanted them all potty trained and at the age I didn't have to be on top of them worrying. We went with a group of friends and their kids who were about the same age or older. Kids all played great together and it was fun to see the kids unplugged a few days. We've gone again last year and going this summer. Gets easier as they get older and they have a blast. It's not the most comfortable but a weekend is just enough for us.
This year we decided to try a cabin. lol.

We went the first time with DS when he was about 16 months old. He loved it. Yes he was dirty but who cares. We go to Hither Hills every year and he can't wait to go.

But DH and I both grew up camping so we knew what we were getting into.

Oh and I actually think its easier when they aren't potty trained because the bathroom situation at campgrounds is many times not the best.
