Newport, Rhode Island

Any recommendations on good hotels or BBs to stay in or around Newport area? DH and I plan to do a weekend trip in May and plan to do the Mansion tours.

We stayed at Rhea's Inn by the Sea. A nice sort of nautical out of the way little place.

We've had good stays at both the Viking and the Vanderbilt Grace

This is where I stayed as well. I thought the hotel was a little run down but the location was great.

Re: Newport, Rhode Island

Stayed at Marriott, Wyndham, Howard Johnson & a small independent hotel. They were all fine. The Marriott is IMO pretty central to where you want to be and hosts a lot of town events. The Wyndham was nice. The HJ was surprisingly well kept, very inexpensive, a bit out of the way and had a great pool (I'd go back for a quick stay with my fish children). Even the independent hotel (I found it from one of those low price websites) was decent and we extended our stay. The one I didn't think was well maintained was the Newport Harbor hotel... but that was about 4 years ago... hopefully they renovated.
