Terrible 3's...
Everything is a struggle with my 3 year old DS. He is especially defiant when it comes to changing out of PJ's in the morning and back into them at night. I'm like how is it that every single day he pitches a fit when i put on his clothes and then throws the same huge fit later in the evening to change out of his clothes?? we do this every. single. day. How do we overcome these power struggles? it's exhausting me to no end

Terrible 3's...
It's a control thing. Let him have some of it back, or Think he does.
Maybe let him pick out his clothes or pjs.
It's a phase...it will pass. Eventually.

Re: Terrible 3's...
Do you let him choose his clothes?
I let my kids pick out their own clothes within certain guidelines. Ex. pick a long sleeve shirt and pants, pick a dress and sweater, etc. Sometimes they match, sometimes it's a hot mess, but they are always content.
If I need them in something more specific, I give them 2 or 3 outfit options.
It gives them some control, and more importantly control over their own body, which is a great thing for them learn - no one but you tells you what to do with your body.
May help eliminate some battles.

Terrible 3's...
I give my son 2 options. There was one day where he wore his PJ shirt to daycare with another shirt over it. Not worth the fight some mornings!!

Re: Terrible 3's...
I say it all the time- 3's are WAYYY worse than the terrible 2s. Then you get to the fuking 4's
My ped had suggested letting my daughter chose between 2 clothing options back then. You can wear this, or this. This way they feel they are making a choice but you aren't giving them free reign .
As others said- it's a control issue.

If you think 3's are bad, wait til 4's some things are just not worth the fight... I hear they become normal again at 5.... I'm counting down the days

Re: Terrible 3's...
If you're already giving a choice of clothes maybe try another choice like- we can change clothes first or have breakfast first (or brush teeth etc).
And my 5 (almost 6) year old still gives me trouble in the morning sometimes with dressing so I'm not sure they ever become normal!

Re: Terrible 3's...
My DD2 is 3 right now and acting the part. With both my kids, the 2s were a breeze but the 3s were awful! As far as outfits, I honestly don't care as much this time around. I try to guide her and give her options but she has maybe 3 dresses she loves and wants to wear over and over. I'm at the point that if they're clean, then fine wear them. I battled with DD1 over clothes for a little, but this time around I don't think it's worth it. Does she dress the way I would like her to? Not all the time. Is it really a big deal? Nope. But my mornings are easier if she likes what she is wearing.

Mine is 5 1/2. We haven't seen normal since about 6 months old. I'll let you know if it ever happens. LOL

Re: Terrible 3's...
Thanks for all the suggestions and support! And the book recommendation I do give him choices but sometimes he just digs his heels so it's very frustrating. I constantly question who's in charge but i guess it's the age. I'll keep at it and hopefully we will get a routine that sticks.
