Re: Paris

Aside from the main sites already recommended, I suggest:

Musee de l'Orangerie - Monet's water lily paintings

Eat at Le Chalet du 8eme

http://experiencefrancebybike.com/giverny-by-bike-a-perfect-day-trip-from-paris/

Take the train from Gare St. Lazare (big train station) to Vernon, then rent bikes in cafe across from train station and bike to Giverny (short ride, maybe 20 minutes?, through the beautiful countryside. Visit Monet's house and see the gardens!!

Re: Paris

We just got back from Paris. We were there for 5 days. When will you be going exactly? We were there the day that police officer was shot/killed on Champs-Elysees. Just be very careful - we were a few blocks away at Notre Dame when it all went down.

I highly recommend the L'Air Open Bus hop on/hop off bus tours - there are 4 lines and its a great starting point to see all the major attractions before focusing on those places you want to see. You can buy tickets (33 Euro each) at the Paris City Vision office at 2 Rue de Pyramides (its basically across from the Louvre). There are 4 lines - the Green (most popular as it covers the big attractions like Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Musee D'Orsay), followed by the Yellow, Orange and Blue. For great restaurants and creperies open past 11 pm, go to the Latin Quarter (quartier latin) near the Sorbonne.

The Louvre is a must and I think the Musee D'Orsay is also fantastic. Definitely try to walk to the top of Sacre-Coeur in Montmartre. I also recommend getting the 3 day Bus/Metro pass (Paris Visite) as you will be able to take the Bus/Metro/RER for 3 days for city zones 1-3. DH and I managed to see everything except climb the top of Montparnasse and the Catacombes because my legs were too tired from all the walking. Ugh, thinking about all this makes me want to go back..Chat Icon

You already got great recommendations. I just want to add that, if you go during busy season, go to the Louvre first thing in the morning when its less crowded. We went in summer. Went to the Louvre at noon and the room where they have Monalisa was a zoo. People were pushing each other to get to the front to take a picture with her in the background.
