If you are sending your child to camp where will they be going? I am looking into options in Western Nassau and Queens and it seems everything "great" is SO SO SO expensive. Looking for some great, affordable options!

Look into your local YMCA or town camps. Those are reasonably priced.

My kids are little. My 2 year old is going to "camp" at his nursery school. But my nephews go to Rolling River in East Rockaway. I think it's a tad expensive, but a little less expensive than some of the other private day camps around. A friend's daughter goes to Twin Oaks in Merrick, not sure the price though.

I agree, my son has been going to the same YMCA camp since he was 5 and loves it. They do so much and I don't have to sell a kidney to send him there.

Disclaimer I'm in NJ

Queens College has an excellent summer camp program. I am thinking of sending my oldest there this summer, he will be going into 1st grade.

I sent my daughter to world of discovery camp in bayside last year. I had signed her up for 4 weeks, but she loved it so much, we added an extra week-- this year she is going the entire summer (except for one week we going away & she's mad that she'll miss a week! LOL)
They have bus service and I was really impressed with them and all the activities they did! Definitely less expensive than others I've looked into.

My sister is a head counselor here and she loves it. She's been working there for years.

Lets talk Camp...

I'm out of State but by far the most affordable camp here is Girl Scouts. It's crazy affordable compared to everything else.

Camps run between 300-600 weekly on average. Depending on what you want. You can get summer camp day care but those fill quickly and run a non refundable monthly charge of 800-1400 (this is Texas prices of course) Which is only like 20% less than the average price anyway.

AJ has been going to Girl Scout camp since she was 6. This will be her 3rd year. She went for two weeks the first year because I just needed some partial coverage while my aunt was busy with visitors. She loved it so much, she asked for all 8 weeks the following summer. So we booked them all and split the cost between my aunt and I.

I just put my deposit in to do it again this Summer. The prices keep going up but right now it's going to cost us $1000 for all 8 weeks. $125 a week. That's includes, two snacks, lunch, field trip and a patch. In her world, that's amazing. Since we split it, it's $500 for my aunt and I and she still stays at my aunt's house so it's the best of all worlds. If she comes home I pay an extra $25 for bus service that week. Meh. My coworker has two boys haha he hates me for it! LOL Plus I can use my Dependent care FSA for it ;)
