With all the opposition for this lady, anyone that voted yes for this POS at the expense of indefensible children of our nation NEEDS to go. Even Trump supporters were opposed to this nominee. It's clear that campaign contributions, $$$, party lines are their main priority and not their constituents. They do not represent us, they are no longer fulfilling their duty which is to represent us. I hope they lose their jobs like all these kids will lose out on an education and teachers losing their jobs.

Yep. My brother and SIL were big Trump supporters. They also have a child with autism who's nonverbal. I am very concerned for what this will mean for them.

I love this country and have always had great faith in democracy, even when it does not align with my beliefs. But this one takes the cake with testing my faith. How do those spineless Republicans who voted her in sleep at night? Surely none of them has had to deal with a child with a disability who relies on the strength of IDEA when their clout buys them education privileges that regular folks have to battle tooth and nail for.

School vouchers basically mean a student can opt to attend a private, parochial, or charter school and the funds that would go to their public school follow them. If the school doesn't work our for them bc they choose to leave or are kicked out the money stays. She has refused to pledge that these schools must be held accountable to the same standards as public schools. She refuses to say she will hold schools accountable for investigating sexual assaults, she refused to say that she will uphold the Individuals for Education Act, she refused to give all of her financial information and continues to hold stakes in a secret family trust, she holds stakes in a student loan collection agency so she will surely fight against free college educations for all, she refused to say that schools should be gun free zones.
I fear that under her direction, public schools will become warehouses for students with special needs and uninvolved parents. Resources in public schools will deteriorate, students will be shuffled around poorly run and unaccountable charter schools, many of which are known for being a revolving door of inexperienced teachers and administrators. All the while, investors will only be interested in what brings them the most profit rather than what is good for our children.

I'm curious how long something like this would actually take to implement, especially nationally. I really can't imagine it could happen that quickly, so hopefully all of those worst case scenarios don't happen in the next 4 years.

So basically our tax money that is normally spent on our public schools will instead be used to give out these vouchers? But it's not going to cover the full tuition of private school right? So people will either have to choose to fork over the rest of the money and if they can't afford that then their kids will remain in the monetary stripped public schools that they are already in? Fabulous.

Trump will just sign another EO (that the GOP is now all of a sudden a big supporter of, now that Obama isn't signing them... ) to immediately start allowing vouchers and funds to transfer to charter, private, and religious schools.
She has investments in KinderCare, a for-profit daycare, several for-profit colleges, and other investments in "education" funds.

And since a large part of our property taxes include school tax, if the public schools fail, our property values, would be affected as well, I'm sure.

Our tax dollars could be taken from public schools, and given to for-profit religious schools, or for-profit charter schools. Not all charter schools or religious schools are for-profit, but some are, and no taxpayer will have a say in where the vouchers are used.
