GERD in preschooler

I think my 2.5 year old may have this. He throws up after eating a lot and he coughs all the time (a phlegmy cough) when eating. He did have bad reflux as a baby, but outgrew it. If your child has it, how is it treated??

Im pretty sure they put them back on a PPI. They also may suggest foods to steer clear of. Do you have a GI to see?

I'd start with a pediatric GI, but also consider seeing an allergist. I know people who have gluten allergies, for example, and they throw up after eating gluten.

Thanks..we actually went to an allergist today and he wants to rule out asthma. No allergies thankfully

I would try manuka honey before giving him a PPI. Mix it with hot chocolate or put it on toast. It cures acid reflux in most people.

We went to an ENT with my daughter around that age because she had a hoarse voice quality. They put a scope in her nose and looked around and said it looked like GERD because things were red and irritated. They put her on Zantac for 2 months to see if it would heal and get better and then took her off. It worked. The surfaces just needed some time to heal.

Is it certain foods that trigger it, or every time he eats?

When I was dealing with issues with my daughter, they had me keep a log of what/when she ate, and time and duration or reaction. It helped us paint a very clear picture of what her trigger foods are.

Definitely see a GI, hopefully it's an easy fix. Good luck!
