Lead testing results

My school district recently published a list of the places in our elementary school that failed the lead test. Apparently my son's classroom was fine one year and the very next year it failed by quite a bit.

I asked the Superintendent for the results of the prior year test - because I want to understand how this is possible. I also asked for the full building results - not just the list of failing locations - as I have other children in the school and want to know what kind of passing level they received.

So far they won't give them to me. I just assumed I had a right to request the full test results. Am I wrong in assuming that? Do I have the rights to see something like this or is there some type of confidentiality angle that I am missing?

Lead testing results

Are you sure there was testing done in the past? Lead testing only became mandated in 2016. The lead levels in my classroom are WAY over 15 ppm.

Re: Lead testing results

I don't see why you couldn't file a FOIL request with your district to see any past testing results.

Lead testing results

I'd be surprised if they tested much if at all before last year. I know our school was one of the first and that was done last spring.

I'd be more concerned with how they are rectifying the lead in the pipes. Our district install water stations in all schools and turned off the water fountains. They also gave each child a water bottle at the start of school to use in the water stations.

There was definitely a change last year. I'm not sure if it's with the frequency of testing but I was under the impression that the level allowed was greatly reduced and that was part of why there were suddenly so many failures.

The Superintendent's letter stated that our district conducted testing in early 2016 and then again when the mandate came out later that year. I am thinking they only tested water fountains the first time and then they were forced to test everything with the emergency mandate issued by the state. I am not familiar with FOIL requests, but will look into it now. Thanks!

Re: Lead testing results

just curious what was the outcome of this?

I ask because my sons prek classroom just failed for lead and they are giving us very minimal information, if any at all.
