Baptism Age Question

At what age did you or are you planning on baptizing your LO?

I live OOS and are planning on returning to NY the last 2 weeks of my leave so family and friends can meet the baby. My parents would like to host a baby shower/baptism ceremony while we're here. The baby will only be 5-6 weeks old at that time. Do you think it's too young? We are also toying around with the idea of coming up in Nov/Dec and maybe having it then (but this is all based on if I can take the time off which I don't think I will be able to so soon from coming back from maternity leave).

Baptism Age Question

My friends son was born almost 7 weeks ago and she had him Baptized when he was 5 weeks. The main reason, her parents are here for his birth from Italy, they wont be back for a long time.

Re: Baptism Age Question

DD was 5 months, DS was 6. But we were the oldest babies by far. One baby there was 2-3 weeks, the other was 6 weeks.

Old school tradition was to have the baby christened before they were able to leave the house meaning prior to shots.

First was 3.5 months. My LO is 2 months now and I still haven't scheduled it. I'm thinking either end of February or waiting until the Spring time. My 90 year old Italian grandma won't shut up about it though, I'll tell ya that much lol

Baptism Age Question

5.5 months. I wanted to do it sooner but my church was only letting 2-3 people baptize their child every month. I booked his baptismal when he was a month old.

Re: Baptism Age Question

We did the first available date after she was born, she was just under 2 months.

Traditionally you'd baptize a baby as soon as possible, I know several strict catholics who have done it at the hospital.

I think the main reason people wait is because they have big parties.

ETA: We didn't want to have it in the summer so we waited until the fall. She was born the end of April.

Baptism Age Question

dd was 4 months old. At 5-6 weeks old, I personally would be nervous. dd didn't get all her shots until her 2 month appt, and we were told to avoid large groups of people until then

Just be aware that the shots they get at the 2 month appointment are really not anything that will protect them from illnesses they can get in large crowds.
They don't have "ALL" their shots until they are almost school age- 2 doses of MMR, Chickenpox etc

Colds and flu and RSV are actually the most dangerous things to newborns and you can't even give them a flu shot until 6 months old.

I just feel like when they tell you to avoid crowds until they get "ALL" their shots at 2 months, it's a huge fallacy and a false sense of security.

This is the only reason I am very hesitant about this. She will only have her 1 month shots by that point. We're waiting to speak to a pediatrician (haven't even looked for one yet Chat Icon) before making a decision

Hailey was 4.5m, Jillian was 6m. I did Jillians later because her godmother lives in Vegas and i had to plan around her schedule.
