Today has been awful. Firstly I didn't get much sleep last night then I am so upset about the result and when I went to pick my kids up from school I was reluctant to even bring it up as its been such a hush hush election I don't know who voted for who. Although the long face of one of my mom friends gave her away and she opened up to me about how terrible she is feeling to.

I did start a conversation with one mom who is a friend of mine and I suspected she was a trump supporter. She confirmed that she voted for him. I explained how shocked I was and how concerned I was that he has no experience in politics for one thing and she just smiled a fake smile and didn't respond. I find this strange .If the tables were turned and she expressed her concern about hilary as president I would most definitely be able to have had a conversation with her as to why I thought she would do a good job.

Its very strange.

I just think many people don't want to talk about politics in general, and especially right now. I don't, ever. Politics, religion, abortion, money issues lol - i keep my thoughts to myself. I would also never ask someone I wasn't very close to who they voted for.

Re: Does today feel weird for you?

It was a big story today - similar to picking the kids up from school as a major storm is approaching....we always discuss the weather...so it was natural to discuss the elephant in the room. I did not nor would I ever ask anyone who they had noted for. She volunteered the information and only then did I voice my concerns about trump and she literally said nothing. Maybe she just didn't want to get into it.

It was a weird day all around. Glad its nearly over.

Re: Does today feel weird for you?

Yes, today felt very off... No one really spoke at my job for the first 2 hours. The whole day just felt weird. It was almost like a day of mourning.

YES! I barely slept, have a knot in my stomach STILL, cried on and off all day. Prayed A LOT. My office of like 500 people was SILENT all day, you could feel the mood. This is going take a while to get over.

This is what shock feels like.

Re: Does today feel weird for you?

I have been up since 5am Tuesday morning. This day has been awful. Its been doom and gloom just like the weather. I hope after some sleep tonight I'll be able to feel less disgusted with what has happened.

Does today feel weird for you?

Today was awful. I teach immigrant kids, many Muslim, some undocumented who are scared and besides themselves. One girl reported that kids she thought were her friends yesterday were screaming "Make America Great Again" and taunting her. She is scared for herself and her family. It's a sad day for me. I voted on social issues and feel broken.

Does today feel weird for you?

Not really. I thought it would be, but at work everyone was completely normal. Everyone was in a good mood and the election was never mentioned.

Yes it was a sad day. I have been up since 3am and crying on and off. I have had friends contact me and we were in shock and sad. I was texting friends at 4am trying to be there for them. My mom and I went shopping while the kids were at school and it was just off in all the stores. I think if we had woken up to it being sunny we may have had hope today we don't. The day was crappy, the weather gloomy sort of fit what everyone was feeling. Hoping tomorrow it gets easier.

Yes. I would never dream of discussing who I voted for or who they voted for with randoms at school. It's none of your business quite frankly and I woukd think it odd if someone approached me about it and yes I'd give a fake smile and walk away asap.
Who anyone votes or voted for is not a topic of conversation unless you are my husband or maybe an immediate family member

Today was a great day, though unfortunate for secretary Clinton. She certainly gave it her all. However the country has a elected a person that has never had any real experience in politics. This is an incredible historic event that PROVES anyone can work hard and become president of the US. Wow!
I'm not going to lie I had a shit eating grin on my face all day. I'm ready to see what the future brings.

I didn't vote for Trump or Clinton but I am actually okay with the outcome. DH and I were definitely shocked but I think in the long run this may have been just what we needed in order to change how our political parties work.

Re: Does today feel weird for you?

I was devastated yesterday. And was ridiculed at work for feeling so by a bunch of trump supporters who were supposedly my friends (even though I never said anything at work, just had a long face on but my fb page said it). Today I am feeling a little better, but have decided that it's time to be an activist. No more sitting around letting things happen. If I want things to change, I need to BE the change.

Bingo. FM me if anyone is left of center and wants to get more involved in local progressive activism (ala Bernie).

This is what we're supposed to do! Come together and do something positive.

I feel SO much better today, especially after reading Michael Moore's tweet. I don't even like the guy, but ITA with what he says here.

Morning After To-Do List:

1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They have failed us miserably.

2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn’t let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must “heal the divide” and “come together.” They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.

3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn’t wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that’s about to begin.

4. Everyone must stop saying they are “stunned” and “shocked.” What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren’t paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all “You’re fired!” Trump’s victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.

5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: “HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!” The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don’t. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he’s president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we’ll continue to have presidents we didn’t elect and didn’t want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there’s climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don’t want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the “liberal” position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above).

Does today feel weird for you?

It's two days after and I remain physically sick. I think today is worse as I see footage of students carrying trump signs and shouting "white power" in schools and read police reports of Muslim women being attacked. My own niece was verbally assaulted and good friend with children in a prestigious district here on LI is setting up a meeting with school officials because both of her children were told to "Go Back to Mexico".

Is this the country I love?

Re: Does today feel weird for you?

I went back to work today (worked from home yesterday). I was expecting a bit of criticism, but I didn't get it (I'm sure that will come over the next four years). Instead I got lots of sympathy and hugs. And questions asked to how could so many Americans be that unkind or fall for a man like Trump. They thought Americans were nice people, etc. So many people here are just in shock.

So, yeah, that's what one segment of the world thinks of America. Well done, America, well done Chat Icon.
